- Yup, I should propably by an album from Monolake. So, what album is recommended? I'm quite confused here, some say that the earliest albums (Hong Kong) are superior to the new stuff, while others claim that only the new stuff is interesting and worth noting. So, help me out here, if I am to buy one Monolake record, what should it be? Justify your reasoning. What about Gravity, I'm pretty interested in that, and it's more widely available than the early stuff... - Similarly, if I am to buy one Chain Reaction CD (apart from that Monolake album), what should it be? What would be the best and most diverse statement of their sound? - Same thing for Basic Channel (best BC album?)... I would try 'Gobi'. Why? Shut out the distractions. Turn down the lights. Lubricate the conciousness to taste. Locate head in stereo sweet spot. Slow the breathe. Your mind will be moved by the will of the maker. Repeat as needed. aaron PS My roommate turned me on to Gobi, I have some others. i've been listening to a new "Monolake" style CD for the last few days. it comes from project called Elements of Sci-Fi. these guys come from Minsk (Belarus) , but these days the live in Ghent, Belgium . i know they just played a live show in Ghent, so maybe someone visited that event ? this CD is unreleased yet, but i hope it will be very soon . i really like it , and see a good future for this project . i think they have some releases in Europe under their second name S.T.R.E.F.F. , but that stuff is more hardcore oriented . s. ----- Original Message ----- From: "visa k" <v.kuoppala@pp.inet.fi> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2002 10:55 AM Subject: [idm] Monolake recommendations (+ Basic Channel / Chain Reaction)

personally, i think everything by monolake is pretty good. if i had to suggest one to start with, i'd probably go with "interstate". all of their albums are widely available, you just might have to order them if you're local record store can't or won't.

one thing: the c.r. stuff tends to sound VERY similar. there is a compilation called "chain reaction compiled", so i guess that would be the most diverse, but don't be suprised if it all blends together to sound like one artist's album. for basic channel, there is no "album" per se. there is only a compilation cd, which doesn't have all the tracks from the 12"s. the cd is recommended, and i, for one, tend to like it more than most c.r. stuff....still, if you can get the 12"s....there are nine of them. other than that, i would highly suggest purchasing the MAURIZIO cd, which is basically the same guys who were behind a lot of the b.c. stuff, only here they're doing a more house influenced sound...actually, it's basically the blue print for all of the minimal/dub tech house that's so popular these days. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't understand why people say this. I just don't see it. I think it's strange if you listen to the Vainqueur, Porter Ricks, Various Artists, Monolake and Vladislav Delay albums and think they sound similar. I think they've all got quite different styles of sound design.
