I just saw Blade Runner director's cut for the X time... and once again, i'm not too sure of the ending. I think Deckard is a replicant too, because he dreams of a unicorn and he finds a unicorn on the floor of his apartment. At the end, Gaff says "Its too bad she wont live, but then again who does" but I'm not sure what that means? With all the geogaddi listenings i had this week, I couldn't help but see similarities with the movie. Like Geogaddi, the blade runner soundtrack is very dark, full of sound distortion. The movie is very nostalgic because of childhood memories of Rachael and the old photographs on Deckard's piano. I'll never get tired of that movie. On a related note, i just got my Syd Meid's Sentury book in the mail today. Its full of images he made recently more or less, i haven't had a good look at it yet but it seems fantastic. I'd really like to see at book with all the blade runner images he made for the movie. I don't mean to ruin the enigma that is blade runner, but he's a replicant. oh, should i have marked that as a spoiler for those whom haven't seen it? :D

I am completely and utterly addicted to boards of canada, and have been since i warmed up to the first album. I don't hear anything dark at all on Geogaddi, although I could see how someone !me could. To me, it just sounds like some bits are lost. But there isn't anything on Geogaddi like "Sixtyten" on Music..., it's just... It's all so weird, yet so normal and like I've been listening to their music my whole life already :D But even though I may be a little bitter on the list, I've been nothing but happy for the past few years of my life, so maybe that's why I like these guys so much. Life-affirming? ;D derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Gaff made the unicorn (during the movie you might notice he has a thing with origami). Deckard may or may not be a replicant- that's the point the movie is trying to make, what defines a human being? Life, intelligence, emotions? The replicants are human- they are called androids, but they are biological, gentically engineered and grown in a lab. They are considered not human and expendable because of this and that they have no empathy for other beings, no feeling. Which is likely a result of not having a childhood, memories. The line "it's too bad she won't live long" refers to Sean Young's character, who is a replicant but has memories artificially created in her mind. Replicants are engineered to live for only 8 years I believe. If you want to understand it somewhat better, read the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. A strange situation where the movie and the book are both equally as good, because, though the story is the same, they are so different. In the book, Deckard even questions the likelihood of himself being a replicant because he has no empathy for them, and finds killing them so easy. Hope all that helps... -- forel I delight in all manifestations of the terpsichorean muse. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

... Since you've seen the film recently, perhaps you'd enjoy listening to a segment of a live show I did. Blade Runner samples and music kept working their way into the mix. K.L.E.R.E. show: Elsewhere 9/24/00 http://free-music.com/ken/extrav/audio/000924elsewhere.shtml I believe "#10-#15" uses them the most, but I think they also appear in #7 (along with Q*Bert) and #20 (along with a million other samples) on that page. I can't remember for sure how much of it was on those tracks, vs. how much was on the full CD of the rest of the show. . At the end, Gaff says "Its too bad she wont live, but then | >again who does" but I'm not sure what that means? | We are all born to die. From the moment of birth, even creation (as a replicant), we are destined to die, irregardless of what happens. Death is the only 100% true staistic. funny, i always took the line "it's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does?" to be a simple meditation on mortality. all of us, whether replicant or human, will die eventually. the point is to live and love with the time you have, be it 8 years or 74. just my 2 cents. - d ----- Original Message ----- From: forel <forel@mac.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2002 9:08 AM Subject: Re: [idm] blade runner, geogaddi, visual futurist
