hi! trying to create mp3s of some vinyl i have, and here is how i am set up: -rega planar 3 going into a rega brio 1 integrated amp, going straight into the sound card of my g4. i record using peak 2.10 my problem is with the records that are mastered at a very low level. how would i amplify them without hearing that hum? ive never looked into it too much before and i dont wanna fuck it up. any help would be appreciated. thanks, jif --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not familiar with some of the equipment you have listed, but it sounds like you might have a ground issue with your turntable. If everything is properly grounded, then you might want to try using a high-pass or notch EQ in Peak to get rid of the hum. If you're taking a tape output off of the Brio, try taking the preamp out instead (after the Brio volume control). You can also turn up the gain on the Mac side, but you'll get a cleaner signal from the Brio. Of course if you're just using the stock Mac sound, you can improve things with a better sound card -- I'd recommend the MAudio Audiophile 24/96 (http://www.midiman.net) or the Echo Mia (http://www.echoaudio.com) On Fri, 1 Feb 2002, Jif Beaulieu wrote:

i use soundjam to record any sounds into my computer. it works quite well and you can adjust the input gain before you hit record to set it at a nice level....if needed i'll edit in peak but that doesn't happen unless i'm working on my sample bank.... cheers, o
