There something a little too sickly sweet about it for my taste. In some ways it's beautiful, yeah, the synth patch programming is pretty awesome, but it almost seems too formulaic for me, this whole extension of the post-rock sound coming from chicago, now embracing electronics. Maybe it's just that i'm not too into that lounge sound, but i find it kinda boring. However, in a similar vein, if any one likes the TTAviv, and hasn't checked out the Immediate Action double comp on Hefty, they should. There is a TTAviv remix of a John Hughes track, and loads of other stuff of interest. And there is also the Joshua Eustis [ one of the TTAviv chaps ] remix on the new Slicker ep. i shouldn't diss the TTAviv too much cos i be listening to it quite frequently, and enjoy it but it just doesn't blow my mind. $0.02 -thor np:: IIpo Vaisanen - Asuma --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I pretty much feel the same way about it. I mean I like it and have listened to it a lot, but I find it's a bit too slick sounding and the guitar stuff tends to venture too much into David Gilmour territory. And the typical sort of melancholia of IDM sounds downright sentimental in their hands. i second this (even though i am somewhat impartial=]) the hefty IA double CD set is hands down the best label comp that i have heard in a long time...READ:diversity of sound. not the same clicky cutty type sound the whole way through, nothing wrong with that, but usually comps that focus in on one particular sound don't hold my attention over the long haul. also...a little birdie told me this, hefty might have a label sampler in an upcoming issue of the wire magazine...but then again might not =] ok more than my $.02 worth. I think it was my mom who said something like 'if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.' I said 'bollocks to that, mom!' It's well done and very shiny and delicate and smooth, but it's got no fire, no spirit, no balls. That may be all well and good for some people, but it just doesn't do it for me. Even with Boards of Canada, who I'm not a big fan of, I can hear that they take some chances melodically and rhythmically and still have a rather mellow, 'adult electronica' feel. TTAviv you could put on the PA at an old folks home and they would enjoy it. Or KCRW. So thanks, but I think I'll be listening to Somatic Responses, Not Breathing, and Babyland today. Apologies to my mom.

I don't know...it's not like this isn't an experimental record. It's got plenty of weird things happening to at least make an old lady twitch unintentionally. True it's not an abrassive record, but it makes a lot of use of drilling and grinding (which we've heard a lot of lately, even with damn N'Sync). It's a very melodic record, but it doesn't really recall the early AI stuff. This record says there's hope for new IDM to be melodic AND groundbreaking. And yes, I'd say this is a groundbreaking record. A lot of people may not see it, but I think a lot of producers will recognize it as such. You're right about one thing for sure: this record lacks serious balls. But it might just get you laid :) -char _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I disagree - I believe that the TTAviv album has some pretty good-sized gonads on it. Well, it's got a much larger sac than the vast majority of this 100% glitch-bullsh*t that's so popular lately... Actually, I think that alot of the Hefty stuff has some really great qualities to it. i shouldn't diss the TTAviv too much cos i be listening to it quite frequently, and enjoy it but it just doesn't blow my mind. I agree with this, seems like TTAviv is the hype of the momeent. However I must say that, in a close vein, I'm surprised not to read more about Nudge. "Trick Doubt", on Outward Music Company, is very very good and although it isn't related to Chicago, and might not deserve as much hype... It really deserves your attention. philippe | 0000 \\\\.. \\\\ __ http://www.bip-hop.com _---||||...\\\\..\\\\ | 0000 --------- unconventional sound adventures ---------- <> | XXX ¨¨¨¨¨¨¨ adventurous & creative electronica ----------- \\

i agree that TTAviv _is_ rather formulaic, and i really don't expect to be particularly challenged by them. then again, that is only one facet of this music. TTAviv fits a very particular vibe that i find myself in quite a bit lately, and as such, it is a beautiful complement. in short, that's why i'm in love with it. :mz // anonbox · http://posthoc.org/ | http://ecesis.org/ 'if there were two of you, which one would win?' --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
