My radio show falls on Christmas Day this year, so I'm going to try and fill the entire two hours with electronic/experimental/weird Christmas and holiday music. I've already got all the V/Vm Xmas releases, the new Corporal Blossom CD of plundered Xmas music, and a handful of other things. And a local artist named Vicor Szabo (aka Fwark) who recorded a hilarious Xmas-themed CDR last December will be in for a half-hour performance/"radio play" which should be fun. But I'd like a few other things to fill the show out. So, if you're an artist (or you know of an artist) in the electronic/experimental realm who happens to have some Xmas/holiday themed music available, let me know. Hey, last year the New Museum of Contemporary Art in NYC had a great show from Christian Marclay called "The Sounds of Christmas". He brought all his Christmas albums in as a weird installation, then he and other DJs scratch and f*cked them up throughout several performances. Perhaps they have some interesting recordings from the show. That was strange and nifty. Hey Mr. Clow.. The illegal art collective have a comp of Christmas song bastardizations floating around at there. This is the same crew that put out the notorious deconstructing beck album that seeland records was carried. It's cutnpaste madness with various versions of the same Christmas songs sung by various crooners (Nat King Cole, Bing Cosby, The King) combined collage style.. they are Xmas themed although I must admit the tracks I heard from the comp didn't even approach 'It's a novelty track that is cute the first time, but I will get sick of by the end of the first listen' status.. the comp is noteworthy for it's civil disobedience (read: lawsuit magnet) if nothing else. ~g -- Greg Smith http://www.technowest.org http://www.laiad.com http://www.mediawhore.cc <-- site launch Jan 1/02 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Some of this may be a bit more on the pop end of the spectrum, but on the electronic/experimental tip... Cocteau Twins - "Frosty the Snowman" Durutti Column - "One Christmas For Your Thoughts" Durutti Column - "Snowflakes" (both DC tracks are on a Crepescule compilation called "Ghosts of Christmas Past" featuring other pre-IDM folks like Cabaret Voltaire and Tuxedomoon) Low - Christmas LP (yeah, the one used on the Gap commercial) Mu-ziq - "Midwinter Log" (from Lunatic Harness) Saint Etienne - "California Snow Story" (from You're In a Bad Way EP), Xmas 93, Xmas 95 and Xmas 99 EPs (some are instrumental on the ISAN/Plone tip, but pretty rare - can MP3 for you) Hope this gives you some ideas Greg. Oh, and since you have all the V/VM stuff, make sure you play "Last Christmas You Burst All My Warts"! -Mike --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Coldcut "Christmas Brakes". Ultimate low point of cheese in their career, but really so bad it's great. Hear Jingle Bells melody over 45 Kings "900 Number"...you know it makes sense. Jeff on 12/7/01 2:58 PM, Michael Stein at Michael.Stein@allscripts.com wrote:

Just remembered one more... New Order - "Rocking Carol." Vintage stuff from 1981, it's basically Steve and Barney playing around with their first sequencers. It's from a limited flexi, but MP3s are out there for it. -Mike --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
