His personal views are inconsequential. What would anyone care? IT'S JUST MUSIC. It's like back in high school when I loved Mercyful Fate. 'How can you like that stuff? It's totally Satanic.' Who cares! I just like the music. I don't care what King Diomond's religious beliefs are. Would you or I like Morrissey or Michael Stipe or Liberace any less knowing that they're homosexuals? Or how 'bout Ozzy knowing that's he's heterosexual? Would you or I like Richard Wagner any less knowing that he fully supported Hitler? Side note- Hitler was in a ragtime/jazz band. I forget what instrument he played. Recordings of his band do exist. Anton Zandor LaVey played oboe in the Cleveland(?) Orchestra. Louis Farrakahn(sp?) is an amazing violinist. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, Martin Heidegger held rank in the Third Reich, should we toss his book out of academia as well? To ignore one's contributions because they have done evil things is not equivalent to condoning those acts. i'm sorry but richard wagner was an asshole, and even he made great music i cann't stop thinking about what he was STANDING for. of course there are many artists who separate their work from their politicaly or moral background but RW didn't. he was a tool in the hands of hitler because he shared hitlers ideology - and if i listen to his music i cann't enjoy the harmony, the poetry, the rhythm... ma_hovina --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

OK, let me put it this way: What would you think if there was an artist whose music was dedicated to terrorist groups whose main objective was the destruction of Brian Albers (for being an evil American, of course) and who bombed Brian Albers' house ? Would you still think he/she's OK cuz he/she makes some cool tunes ?

I think the difference here is that noone takes stuff like that seriously. And I haven't heard of too many Satan worshipers who were responsible for incredible acts of terrorism (heh, besides those Black metal dudes who burned down a couple of churches).
quoted 2 lines Would you or I like Richard Wagner any less knowing that he> Would you or I like Richard Wagner any less knowing that he > fully supported Hitler?
Well he didn't since that would have been impossible, as he died before Hitler was even born. He was an anti-Semite though.
quoted 1 line Side note- Hitler was in a ragtime/jazz band.> Side note- Hitler was in a ragtime/jazz band.
I'm sure you're getting some people mixed up here. I doubt he would have touched jazz since he viewed it as the decadent music of "Negroes" and Jews. Okay, I don't think that's a fair parallel. Bryn didn't dedicate his music to terrorist groups, he dedicated it to the cause of Palestine. He did voice understanding of terrorists group (I don't think it's the same as endorsing terrorist acts).

Hey speaking of terrorist bands and stuff I have this friend who is totally convinced that Godspeed you Black Emporer are terrorists, or are in some way linked to some kind of terrorist plot. See he showed me the album cover of "Raise your Skinny Hands" or some such shit and told me in great detail how there were all these allusions to Timothy McViegh and all this wierd stuff. I dunno he smokes a lot of pot. Anyways I don't have the album, I'm not really into them all that much (maybe I don't take enough qualudes?) but does someone who owns this album have any thoughts on this? I don't want to start a wave of hysterical musical witchhunting , I'm just sort of curious about this band now. As far as musical witchunts, I found the projections or a few of the projected pieces behind Plaid to be quite interesting, also, in light of current events. Any thoughts on that, anyone? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Well, they are Canadian. godspeed you black emperor! are about as un-terrorist as you can get. they're the exact opposite. they go to great lengths to bring more beauty into the world, instead of taking it away. Although some wacko could argue that all that time spent practicing and playing live is just a cover, terrorism is pretty full time. I hear RDJ has a tank. Hey I wasnt accusing GSYBE! Of anything.I especially dont think they're in the blowing people up business. Maybe making music about wierd religious revolutionary apaocalyptic stuff for sure. This following thing monolouge from one of thier albums I got off of thier website is really really cool. But maybe I relate to it too much after some whacky drug trips. Sorry about all the fucked up spacing issues... monologues - hung over as the queen in maida vale this monologue is taken from the track gybe! performed in session for john peel, broadcast on january 19th 1999. ...prepared in innocence to meet our king of glory and so we have this you have it in your secret windows and you're understanding to understand it and to bring it forth it takes minute detail it takes a holy life it takes emotions it takes dedication it takes dedication it takes a death and only god can allow it and you couldn't do it if you're not the seed of god and so the path through the great corridors these are corridors unto his perfection that is which the prophet and the oarman summoned has penetrated that through this great sea of blackness that i penetrated through these corridors and i went through that last segment where i went through these dark serpentines i passed through that corridor where they sat where they are and when you penetrate to the most high god you will believe you are mad you will believe you've gone insane but i tell you if you follow the secret window and you die to the ego nature you will penetrate this darkness oh yes there's many a man or woman that's been put in the insane asylum when this has happened to them and they're sitting there today, people think they're insane but they saw something that's real and they see it when they're on drugs the only thing is they see it not through the light of god, and the way i show you i show you to see it through the light of god and the understanding of god because when you see the face of god you will die and there will be nothing left of you except the god-man, the god-woman the heavenly man, the heavenly woman the heavenly child there will be terror under this day of night there will be a song of jubilee waiting for your king there will be nothing you will be looking for in this world except for your god this is all a dream a dream in death and so i went through that window and the tower of hell and the great serpentines of the highest order and i went through that when i showed you chart #3 the question is asked and learned and someone who.... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'd find out if any proceeds from album sales went to the cause in question. If not, my attitude is that it's music and that although we all love good artists, a lot of good artists are idiots when it comes to politics and social causes. Good music is good music. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! Curiously... someone recently posted that the BOC "Beautiful Place In The Country" single is about David Koresh. I looked at the photo of the eye they mentioned. It really is David Koresh's eye. I'm inclined to buy the theory now.
