I think sometimes too much of a good thing can turn it
bad.... For me personally sometimes when Im working, I
would really like to take a really kick ass track into
6 or 7 min...but I stop at about 3. Sometimes the
options for expansion just are not there, and looping
it over too much could potentially bore the listener.
Sometimes when I hear a really great track and it
suddenly ends at around 2-3 min., I feel let down for
a moment....but common' we all hit that back-track
button at least once....makes you think "DAMN! what a
kick ass song!...gotta hear it again!"
As for songs that are too long, I dont get that all to
often...there are a few AE songs for example that can
successfully loop a few drones, and with the right
backing, and almost random effects....can carry for
7-8 min... and Aphex Twin S.A.W.v2...it just depends
on the mood...like a 7 min. trance track! I'd go mad!
"thump-thump-thump-thumthump"(looped) 4/4 kicks looped
for 7 min with scaling cheesy Alesis Q card trance
sounds drives me mad!...and to think that thats what
often tops at MP3.com.......I wont get into that.
