despite all of my complaining about the packaging, i'm really getting into the "frente 57" cd. nicest idm stuff that i've heard in awhile. of course i missed the first two coalition releases, so i'm glad that they made this available. really good stuff with a nice variety of sounds. love the piano in hamijama's "kish decoy module". i think this might edge "lily of the valley" for this year's best comp. is hamijama's "cultivar" 12" still around/available? thanks, alan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

"speaking of beta bodega...i was thinking today...if i stereotype...the majority of people buying bbc records are fairly well-to-do people...maybe middle-class white dudes...right?...i doubt that these people are really going to give a care about third world suffering".... Which is exactley why someone would want to release records with educational info on them, I dunno even if it is some marketing ploy its kind of nice to see something out there that is concious of the outside world, rather than the normal apolitical stance of electronic music. And the music is slamming beyond the politics, thats the best part. --- * lim <the_lim@hotmail.com> wrote:

The rhythms slowly draw you into a cushioned saddle and an electronic trot then begins, taking us through fields of bubble bass, valleys of sonic glitches, and mountains blooming with digitalia. Not quite as minimal as Pole but just as deep. They never break into a gallop, conserving energy rather than letting it run wild. This record is a form of deconstructed dub / house which avoids 4/4 time at every corner creating a relaxed, challenging and accessible electronica lined with interesting bass lines. A great full-length from bip-hop stables. REVIEW WRITTEN BY Black Sifichi - www.novaplanet.com SPACEHADS and MAX EASTLEY : the time of the ancient astronaut [bleep 04]____May 2001 A world of high opera and tipsy beats that then cascades with a metallic pounding. Haunting trumpet melodies over soft drones and textures sets the mood. The music takes on cinematic proportions as the terrain unfolds. Interstellar landscapes are revealed. MAX EASTLEY plays The Arc. A nine foot long mono chord. One string stretched over wood and played with a bow or glass rods. The pitch is changed by flexing the wood. The string can also be shortened with clips. It is then fed into electronic effects. The SPACEHEADS is a duo mixing trumpet and electronics with drums and percussion. Plaintive trumpet calls are looped across pulsing beats that propel us into sheets of metal crashing and vibrating through tiny pick ups cranked to the full and then spun into electronic webs. I'm surprised that no one has mention Beta Bodega with all this talk about foreign policy. Beta Bodega's releasesalways have liner notes to raise awareness about Latin America. They even named one of their releases "B2",named after the CIA-trained death squad that wreaked havoc on Colombia in the '80s. [V/A] "Beta Bodega Coalition: The Psychological Operations in Guerilla Warfare" (Rice and Beans) CD $14.99 Beta Bodega Coalition's newest compilation takes the involvement of the U.S. (and the C.I.A. in particular) with El Salvador's recent tragic history as a theme. Of course, violent manipulation (of computers) has never been something that Beta Bodega's artistes have shied away from, and they reveal themselves here in an angry mood. +++ Here's a quote from the article/URL"Thanks to Washington, D.C.'s continued stompingaround Latin America, Miami's heightened awareness ofthe cultural component in pop shows no signs ofslackening. If not from Cubans, Nicaraguans, orSalvadorans, then from the next decade's beneficiariesof our nation's "low-intensity" wars. Like, say,Colombia." http://www.miaminewtimes.com/issues/1999-09-02/kulchur.html --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!

Luke Vibert has been a busy guy! I heard he has five Amen Andrews singles on Rephlex, the Yoseph album on Warp in October, and I just learned about this one... Luke Vibert & Jean-Jaques Perrey - Moog Acid CD (Lo Recordings). Has anyone heard any of these?
