I was referring to radio playlists, but you might want the check out Thomas Brinkmann (nice minimal German stuff), Vladislav Delay, Funckarma, Arovane, Boulderdash, Prefuse73, the new Clicks & Cuts, and just about anything on Pitchcadet, Chocolate Industries, and Schematic. Don't forget the whole Ninja Tune camp. Ae has a nice remix on DJ Food's Refried Food. If you like the hip hop/jazz scene, check out some of the old school like Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy, George Clinton, and the whole '80s electro scene. For turntablism, there's Kid Koala, DJ Qbert, and Coldcut's Cut-Outs from the Ninja Tune store. For the avant garde, try Reich, Glass, Stockhausen, and Cage. You might want to pick up Bitches Brew by Miles Davis to see where Squarepusher is coming from. As far as mix CDs, Coldcut's out-of-print Journeys by DJ is king, but Cold Krush Cuts is nice too. On the other end of the spectrum, Richie Hawtin's Mixmag Live! is exceptional. Don't forget Luke Vibert. Big Soup is definitely his best, although if you can find a copy of Throbbing Pouch (Wagon Christ), it's worth it. Finally, I'd pick up everything you can find by Freeform. All the Freeform releases are really growing on me as time goes on. Same with Mouse on Mars. This is just a taste of what I've been playing lately. I'm sure I'm leaving out a ton of great artists. I put reviews on http://www.gridface.com/ of the new stuff I get in. Jacob At 9:18 AM +0000 4/29/01, teardropb . wrote:

Try Milton Babbitt. One of the first guys to write music so complicated that ONLY a computer could play it. Should be of interest to IDM'ers. As everyone seems to be at it, I thought I'd inspire everyone with my superior taste in music. It's not all recent, just what's getting played at the moment: mice parade - mookondi I'm surprised no-one else has mentioned mice parade - it's not really IDM admittedly, but his stuff is always amazing. Did anyone see him live recently? I'd be interested to know what its like. Apparently he's on One World on Radio 1 this Thursday. autechre - confield I first thought it was terrible, as with most autechre, and as usual its really grown on me four tet - dialogue well over 1 year on and still going strong. New album out soon. twilight as sung by the twilight singers not IDM at all, but its really nice. Strangely enough, the beast tracks seem to be the ones without the Fila Brazilia production pilote - doitnowman This is kind of 'pop' IDM - loads of melodies and (amazingly) hardly a single distorted crunchy beat to be heard. Quite unusual nowadays. and, in no particular order mouse on mars - niun niggung plaid - squance super furry animals - mwng crunch 1 infesticons - gun hill road digital - chronic 13 cinematic orchesrtra remixes antibalas - liberation afro beat vol 1 squarepusher - music is rotted one note mbv - loveless (as usual) Dan. Yes, I saw Mice Parade live this past month here in Chicago. I've been a moderate fan of their cd material so I went to check out their live show. Absolutely breathtaking. 95% live instrumentation between 6 musicians on a variety of strange instruments. I was really blown away by how the 6 members perfectly orchestrated their sounds to create songs of such intricacy and flawlessness. Truly amazing and hypnotic performance. I highly recommend catching their live act if you can. synctank np: v/a - initial release ----- Original Message ----- Date: Tue, 01 May 2001 15:43:43 +0100 To: <idm@hyperreal.org> From: "Dan Shoebridge" <Dan.Shoebridge@opsroom.co.uk> Subject: re: Whats on yourIDM playlist Message-Id: <saeed9c1.030@opsroom.co.uk> As everyone seems to be at it, I thought I'd inspire everyone with my = superior taste in music.
