ok, so what do you guys think of phonem? i heard one sample from the "25" site, the one with IDM reviews. it seemed rather good, but just wanted to know the overall consensus, and where i might be able to hear some more bits of his/her/their stuff. and go download the mp3 of my track "dicant". it's at www.idrive.com/ecux it's only about 2 and a half minutes long, so its not a huge file. tell me or post what you think. i'd love some feedback. :jason (ecux www.zenapolae.com) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes, Phonem's music is quite good, especially his new Hydro-Electric album on Morr Music. Phonem's The Mechanic Verses double from last year was my favorite release of 1999 so really all of his release are worthwhile for fans of solid percussive idm in the vein of of arovane, autechre, funckarama, etc. Phonem releases: . Phonem: the mechanic verses 2xlp (Jetlag) . Phonem: phonetik 12" (Morr Music) . Phonem: hydro-electric cd/2xlp (Morr Music) Phonem comp appearances: . Sendertechnik comp LP (ADSR) . Supermarket Music comp cd (City Centre Offices) Phonem has more material coming on City Centre Offices, Vertical Form, Neo Ouija, Morr Music, Pubroc Smalls sometime this year. For more info check out Phonem's official website at: http://www.phonem.de/ Also you can hear a track from his Hydro Electric album at: http://www.mdos.at/detail-bylabel.php3?pid=2145 -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I got Hydro-Electricity yesterday and I think it's very nice indeed. It's got the Autechre-ish crunchy beats and some really nice atmospherics and melodies. I would recommend it for sure. I think the 25 review is pretty accurate. Ross. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Cichli@aol.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2000 10:54 PM Subject: [idm] phonem

yes, you're right. it's not possible that i just don't like it because it's not to my taste. it must be something wrong with me. i must listen to it again. look, i like subtle stuff like that, but there's just so much of it right now that phonem's stuff didn't strike me as worth a purchase when i already have two or three similar ablums - i'm saving my money for the next freeform, autechre and plaid. ok, ok, so they're all relatively big names - but they all have a unique, terrific "sound," and that's sorta what I'm looking for at the moment. but i will give phonem more listens, as i was going to anyway, just like i did to jamie lidell's muddlin gear - i certainly grew to like that!

Well, I was a little harsh, but for the record, I can appreciate what someone has done while still not having any desire to listen to it ever again. This is what I mean when I say somethig is "nice but not to my taste." I get it, and it's not bad, but not worth my time again when there are other things I like much more. That's all I meant. :)

Greets: heh heh - I would have to agree. Phonem is probably my favorite "IDM" project right now. Everyone I've played 'Hydro Electric' for has since become an admirer of his material. Since hearing 'Hydro Electric' myself, I've scoured the earth for every song he's released. I think his 'Phonetik' e.p. is equally as good and 'Mechanic Verses' also has some memorable moments. The compilation tracks I've managed to collect are also worth seeking out (cottage ind.,bliss tech, bip-hop, cashier escape route). On another subject, I've heard some people here talk about the new Gimmik 12" on Toytronic. Why is it that every single mail order record store I've contacted doesn't know a damn thing about it? I'm a my wits end here. Where can I find this record here in the states? I'm trying to avoid the astronomical costs of ordering from overseas.
