Assuming they follow the same pattern as last year, most MUTEK events will take place at Ex-Centris, a film/multi-media complex in downtown Montreal. The artist line-up and ticket info for this year have yet to be announced. ... but 2 "MICRO 2" events related to MUTEK (an "appetizer") have already been announced. Here are the details: April 6 - MICROSOUNDS Richard Chartier - Washington Taylor Deupree - New York Kim Cascone - San Francisco April 7 - OACIS.optics acoustics calculated in seconds Noto (Carsten Nicolai) - Berlin Komet (Frank Bretschneider) - Berlin Byetone (Olaf Bender) - Berlin Should be most interesting. I've been at the Raster Noton gig for MUTEK last year and it was really really good. Both events are at Ex-Centris, BTW. g. -- Guillaume Grenier - gollum@videotron.ca in space there is no north in space there is no south in space there is no east in space there is no west --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hello peoples! I've been wondering about this for a while now, and I thought I'd just ask the experts :) I have a cd called "The Optic Crux" on Djax-Up-Beats. It's an oldie, with some very nice melodic old-school ambient/techno tunes. I've had it for a few years and still love it! I was wondering if anyone could tell me who made it (I don't have the cd with me at work right now, but as far as I know there's hardly any info on the cd itself), and if that person made anything else? It sounds a bit like it could have been made by the guy(s) behind Edge of Motion, but it's more ambient-styled. I hope you can help me! All in all, a great 5 days of electronic music, in all forms and shapes, from the ultra kitsch and groovy Nova Huta and Felix Kubin to the horribly boring noise of DIOXIDE, with excursions into laptop nerdness with SND, and elektro moments with Solvent vs. Lowfish to the extreme house of Luomo ... A day by day review ... day 1 : vitaminsforyou : nice "board of canda"-ish set, snd : laptop nerdness, simple beats and "melody" d i o x y d e : noise, with fun visuals, not quite loud enough ( I8U was better last year, in that type of music ) mens/koolwyk : sound a lot like SND, with visuals to go, minimal. hellothisisalex : missed them because aforementionned shows started late... nova huta : Whoohooo kitsch groovy east-european analog junky with a twist... one of the best showman of the festival. felix kubin : same thing as nova huta day 2 : deadbeat-monolake webjam : cool minimal techno web jam kind of groovy ... alexandre burton : Blah, max/msp construction set live ) , left the place ... zack settel : din't hear it duul_drv : did't hear it .... helen of troy : ambient loops of live violin with feedback, a bit like some mellow seefeel ghislain poirier : nice groovy laptop glitches and beats ... stephan mathieu plays sad mac studies : missed this one. janek schaefer : boring, I'm sorry, turntables, with 2 arms, custom vinyls, and feedback and noise. solvent vs lowfish : nice set of elektro-ish techno, with enough kick to make people dance. bola : I like bola, but not live, not different enough from the CD... ensemble : Blah, I left ... day 3 : [ I missed the afternoon session ... ] steve beaupre - dj : came in ... nice minimal tech-house-ish set ... repair + dawn lewis : really liked them, but I don't remember enough, but I danced on it, and I liked dawn lewis' voice, quite fitting. copacabannark : WhooHooo Rocked da' House, hard pounding techno with a twist... but, my friend lazlo, they were beat by Dandy Jack as the most enthusiamic radio boy live - aka matthew herbert : I like herber's more jazzy side, but not this, too much anger and uselessness ... didn't go anywhere... overkill ... akufen : simple straight "storming cut'n'paste techhouse" like lazlo wrote, but as one of my friend told me, it's lacking variations ... but I danced right thrue it ... hakan libdo : again, I agree with you lazlo ... day 4 : ORTHLORNG MUSORK label showcase: stephan mathieu plays full swing : missed this one. timeblind : don't remember, I was reading a magazine .... :-( agf : nice laidback glitch-pop, with agf / dlay : in the same vein as AGF solo, but a bit more up-tempo, i half expected something more like Naima ?!?!? well, can't have everything ... philip sherburne - dj : I left .... vincent lemieux - dj : nice tech-house set ... ben nevile : Fun to watch, and dance to ... KLANG/PLAYHOUSE label showcase: farben : Blah, I don't like him, didn't do much for me, went for a drink ... losoul : WhooHoo, he kicked ass ... great tech-house ... ricardo villalobos : Ricardo is a hard one to get, it's either really great of really bad, but I liked it very much ... luomo : WhooHoo, this is house, really sexy house ... this guy can do it all !!! day 5 : [ I missed the afternoon session ... ] mutek dj : Alain Mongeau himself, he's the mutek head ... good tech set ... murcof : I liked him very much, more into cinematic techno, with great ambience and a real sens of depth ... juan self : Tech-House, rocked the place, good show man also, atomtm : What can I say, this is really great, I must admit I was a bit scared, because I didn't really know what to expect ... great tech-break-glitchs ... rocked the house ... dandy jack presents sieg uber die sonne : and just when you thing you heard enough !!!! Whoohooo This guy kicked add, and dropped a bomb in Montreal last night, a great, woonderfull set of tech-house with some nice touch of latin percussions he was the best ... atom + dandy jack + ricardo villalobos (jam session) : and then came apotheosis, the three of them all together on stage, took so time to get things going, but when I left at 4am, all latin-hell broke loose ... In summary : The bests : copacabannark losoul luomo every one on day 5 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Too much to talk about this early in the morning (and after no sleep), but... *Overall - the sound was wonderful in all the venues... *Monolake-Deadbeat webjam - watching them activate the music on the big screens built great tension--very cool...lots of cheering... *Janek Schaffer - him sitting in the middle of ExCentris with his dual-arm turntable, crazy prepared vinyl, and noise/feedback sounds was a demonstration of carefully controlled noise. Exquisite. *Akufen - storming cut'n'paste techhouse which you didn't want to end. Lots of sweating and smiling faces. *Hakan Lidbo - gameboy beats, electronic spider tweaks, and banging banging banging. Danced very hard. *Copocabanark - French duo who nearly split everyone's eardrums with waveform squealches and balearic pounding. Winners of the "most enthusiam" award hands-down. *Bola - played largely from the album but with Michael England's visuals (as seen on the Fyuti artwork) was a really nice experience...hearing it that loud was a catharsis. *Luomo - sex and love. More on that one later... But I'm forgetting so much...and I had to miss Atom/Murcof due to travel... Heath Sean Portnoy wrote:

good: The crowd. Up for it all weekend. Listened carefully but mostly loved to dance. Ben Nevile was a nice surprise. His dance grooves, when he chose to drop them, were impossible to ignore. Luomo: heavenly. Bathed in that glow, looked like he was channeling the spirit of joy directly into his gear. Timeblind. Don't remember why, exactly, but, uh, was good. Atom(tm) and Ricardo Villalobos both had uneven sets to my ears. But their best tracks...shit... less good: Radioboy. Tracks were hard but not too compelling. Nice theatrics though. Losoul was good, but he got played off the stage by every other performer that night. How are they going to beat this lineup next year? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
