I keep listening to 'Freak N You' off the Matmos / Motion split 12 on Fat Cat. I'm sure it's highly unlikely, but there's no other Matmos material out there like this, is there? It's basically really chopped house stuff (to the extent that it hardly ever has the old four to the floor), but it's got stabbing sampled chords, someone singing "feeling freaky" and I think it's really funky. I like that it's totally twisted, but doesn't have a menacing vibe. It's fun chaos. :-) Anyway, I take it the Rachel's collab is not the place to look... ;-) Thanks, Michael -+- Involve Records http://involverecords.com Jet Jaguar MP3s (latest upload Nov2000) http://mp3.com/jetjag -+- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

whilst discussing matmos: i hear there's a matmos cover of coil's "disco hospital" (which, further still, is musically quite similar to what you describe). anyone know where i can pick it up? micah stupak /"\ laerm@soulfood.org ascii ribbon campaign \ / international bright young kook against HTML email X / \ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's on the "California Rhinoplasty" EP which will be released by Matador Europe later this month. I've had it on CD-R for a while now, and it's mighty fine. Also includes a Herbert remix. ...i haven't received the original matmos posting, so i'll just reply here. the new matmos album ("a chance to cut is a chance to cure" march 13 in north america, i think matador europe had a different release date), will probably meet your dancey matmos needs. i like it more than the last album... the west? i think. "california rhinoplasty" is pretty dancey, i guess the single will meet your needs too, and as greg mentioned, a coil cover and herbert remix [of "california..." not the coil cover i believe]. info bit on the album: matmos are a san francisco duo, who, when not collaborating with bjork or scoring porno films and pinball machines, record some of the most stirring and evocative electronic music your sweet ears have ever heard. this is their fourth cd, whose theme of the sounds of medical technology-using actual audio from plastic surgeries-adds a provactive conceptual layer to their magical noise. the songs are made out of liposuction, laser eye surgery, hearing aids, acupuncture, rat cage, human skulls and nose jobs respectively. later... The Matmos EP entitled California Rhinoplasty" comes out next week (2/13) on Matador Europe. There's a track called "Disco Hospital" that's a Coil cover, plus two new interpretations of "California Rhinoplasty" by Doctor Rockit and Surgeon (Herbert remix). The album, A Chance To Cut Is A Chance To Cure will be released March 13 simultaneously on Matador US/UK.
