damn! i think planet mu has to get my label of the year vote. just listening to the criminal 12" for the first time right now. this stuff is great. NME had it as their single of the week, and said to grab it before the copyright suits start flying, but as far as i'm concerned each and every one of these artists should be calling the offices of planet mu and thanking them. of course, i'm sure cylob had no problems with rewind getting the works. although it's probably the weakest track on there. but that remix of genie in a bottle is rad. and really, when's the last time you heard the hammer sound that good? other great stuff from planet mu this year: the frost jockey 12"s (i hear they're coming out on a CD), kid spatula, jega's "geometry"... i haven't heard some of the other stuff (leafcutter john, capitol k album, tim tetlow, phthalo...). what do some folks think of those? thanks in advance if anyone can give any info! alan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I was skeptical about this 12", bit it's really grown on me. The remix of "genie in a bottle" is genuinely funky and listenable. The others are all fairly DSP'd out. Anybody have info on who is doing what on this release? Paradinas, etc.? (for that matter, "Hrvatski?") Tim Tetlow produces some fantastic music. He released a 12" last year, and I hear there's a CD coming out with all the tracks from this release + 8 new ones. Quite a deal! His style is very well-done IDM, similar to BoC. I know that's a pretty trite description, but if you just trust me and pick it up, I guarantee you'll see that it's on the top shelf of the latest IDM crop. I withdraw my question re: artists on the criminal 12", as it was politely pointed out to me that all of the aliases are anagrams for the members on the roster. Shoulda been the first thing I checked. it's all anagrams of the artists...have fun working it out or go to http://www.planet-mu.com and visit the message board for the answers

i have to disagree here...it sounds dated (it was recorded in 1997, i think) and all the tracks are too similar...if 'BoC style' is simply long chords and simple melodies over unchanging drum patterns, then it is very BoC like .....it certainly ain't 'topshelf', more bargain bin. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
