Anyone else as disappointed as I am with the new Photek full-length? Seems as if he mostly replaced his signature drum'n'bass sound with somewhat lame House. I can understand the desire to move on, but this seems like a step backwards. Maybe I don't "get it". Care to explain? Actually I might have liked it better if the atmosphere were a little murky...sounds too crisp somehow. Compare/contrast with the recent Jeff Mills 2x12" "Every Dog Has Its Day" for a demonstration. --Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

this came up a few weeks ago, and i tend to concur after listening further. what little d&b there is sounds like d&b lite. i guess it would sound pretty good playing at abercrombie & fitch as the beautiful people browse around looking at the latest cargo pants that have more pockets and zippers than i could ever use. but the new jega... that's another story! g. np: silver jews On Sun, 8 Oct 2000, ian wrote:

sounds like you still have things to open up to. i heard a track of this the other day, and rather enjoyed it. will i rush out to buy it? nah, but it did impress me more than anything i have heard from photek since i heard the hidden camera "static" (if thats what its called) mix sometime ago. i think it is wonderful when artists travel into new ground. in fact, i would love to see some of these idm kids loosen up a little and bust out some happy hardcore. m-ziq seemed well on his way the last few times i saw him live. house certainly will not hurt you in any bad way. chris. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I quite like the new Photek. I will say that I really don't dig on the "if that don't make you happy" track. The vocals seem out of place.....this really isn't the case for the other vocal cuts though. I think that what he does with the context of the 4 on the floor rythm is really cool and he still maintains elements of his sound. Its not Modus Operundi, but I don't think artists should be forced to make the same record over and over. I feel bad for saying this, but I don't like it at all. And no it has nothing to do with me not being open. They made no new ground with this release. Luckily I have CIM, Lusine, and Boulderdash to enjoy! Anyone heard anything from Casino vs. Japan? Give me your opinions of it, please? Thanks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
