First of all the new Arovane LP/CD, "Tides," on City Centre Offices, is possibly the best thing I've heard all year, and certainly in my top 5 for 2000 so far. Expect a very different direction from his previous work, much less Autechrean, and incorporating acoustic and heavily ambient elements (thanks to the contributions of Christian Kleine, I'm presuming of Hermann & Kleine). I bought the vinyl, but as it turns out I need this in both formats -- for mixing, and for sleeping to. Secondly, the new Vertical Form release, featuring Arovane's and Rappacioli's remakes of Pub's "Summer," is another stunner. Why have I seen so little about this label around here? Four releases in and nary a clunker. The first two records, granted, are solidly Berlin-style tech gear, but Pub's "Summer" 12" (with a Vladislav Delay) is another of my top 5 for a year, in constant rotation on my decks. Later in the year Vertical Form will be releasing a CD with both "Summer" 12"s + additional remakes by Rappacioli & Arovane. Great stuff. p --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

excuse me if i'm wrong. I haven't been long on this List but from what I've seen in the letters I've come to the conclusion that you guys don't like autechre. Everything that isn't autechreish is good. I personally like autchre and I was wondering if what I'm saying is true. I think people are more likely reacting to the growing armada of bands that sound like Autechre. Funkstörung (sometimes) sounds like Autechre. Boards of Canada (sometimes) sounds like Autechre. Lexaunculpt (sometimes) sounds like Autechre. Every artist on Schematic has at one point in time sounded like Autechre. Everything that isn't autechreish at least might be original ... I personally like Autechre but I think that one is enough... josh -- String Theory Digital Laboratory http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/

Yes, I'm fully in agreement with what you say. Whilst I would have been very happy with something similar to Atol scrap, this is even better. Less than two weeks until I see him live... Altern8 was quite an experience at Compression on Saturday, they still had their fluorescent masks and outfits and their keyboard miming was amongst the more vigorous I've seen. Simple as they are, those songs are all *quality*. They even had their white gloves. It seems that Uwe Zahn's City Centre Offices output is distinct from the DIN releases, having a more percussive/ acoustic focus. The Arovane /Christian Kleine split 7 "is a nice excursion into this different territory and is good to see the Arovane sound having some degree of malleability, yet retaining a robust sound.

I just had a feeling from the first release that this would be a label to really look out for, and I've always been one to be extremely excited by it. Just looking at the current and future roster is enough to get anyone's ears drooling (if there's such a thing - a thing for me at least;`). And quite diverse too. The first 2 Eps having a rather dubby/ monotone minimal Rapaciolli feel followed by sheer lush ambience from Pub, with those amazing remixes from Vladislav Delay, Arovane and Rapaciolli. With Kit Clayton to follow anything can happen with this label from now. Check out: www.verticalform.com for more details and updates. Firstly, Mixing It (radio 3, 11pm) has a Kid 606 interwiew tonight, which could be fairly interesting. Secondly, and on a slightly more obtuse tip, can anyone think of some realy obscure Squarepusher tracks... I have a friend who claims to have all of them. The Spymania stuff doesn't count because he has Burning'n Tree. It's a slightly pointless request, but I felt that as this is the best collection of trainspotters going, people might relish a chance to show off their obscurism.
