First of all the new Arovane LP/CD, "Tides," on City Centre Offices, is
possibly the best thing I've heard all year, and certainly in my top 5 for
2000 so far. Expect a very different direction from his previous work, much
less Autechrean, and incorporating acoustic and heavily ambient elements
(thanks to the contributions of Christian Kleine, I'm presuming of Hermann &
Kleine). I bought the vinyl, but as it turns out I need this in both
formats -- for mixing, and for sleeping to.
Secondly, the new Vertical Form release, featuring Arovane's and
Rappacioli's remakes of Pub's "Summer," is another stunner. Why have I seen
so little about this label around here? Four releases in and nary a
clunker. The first two records, granted, are solidly Berlin-style tech
gear, but Pub's "Summer" 12" (with a Vladislav Delay) is another of my top 5
for a year, in constant rotation on my decks. Later in the year Vertical
Form will be releasing a CD with both "Summer" 12"s + additional remakes by
Rappacioli & Arovane. Great stuff.
