When and where is this being broadcast? Is it a radio 1 Essential mix? By the way, has anyone got any thoughts on the Wormhole album? I finally got my hands on it a couple of days ago and have to say it's not quite the 8th wonder of the world that it was hyped up to be. Incredibly produced and all, but some of it's a bit, I dunno, anonymous. The best tracks seem to be the ones Optical did on his own. If you ask me, the Klute album is the best d&b release for ages (and it's a reasonable price, which makes a change). Dan Shoebridge np: wormhole

I'd say it's also a bit photek-y. Very sharp drums, but less minimal and better on a dancefloor. It's actually quite varied - as well as the dancefloor tracks it's got some stealthy numbers, some chilled out, some funky, some techsteppish, a couple aren't even d&b at all. I like it 'cos it's really distinctive, which seems to be quite a rarity in d&b these days - everything's either really samey or 2 hours long (or, even worse, both). Who cares how good the production is? Give me some lo-fi track with some original ideas over all the formulaic well-produced d&b any day. Dan Shoebridge. np: David Holmes - Let's get killed.

No you're exacly right. That's why I said tight production...cuz some peoepl are turned off by it, by tight meaning a more bright sounding popsong aesthetic where everything is compressed heavily and loudness maximized...I think when it is done well, and the music is good to boot, it's just icing on the cake. Boymerang shares the same degree of production and thus the comparison... peace Nate

The Klute stuff isn't nearly as dark at the No U Turn/Virus releases. There are some dark songs on the LP. The track Faceless is pretty dark and great tune. It is a pretty good album. If you looking for D & B lite look for the Blackout 12" on Certificate 18 or his Override 12" Wormhole is really good.

Hopefully you have a turntable because the best stuff often doesn't go to CD (at least for a while) I would highly recommend getting all of the Virus singles. I like most of those tunes better than the stuff on Wormhole. Also look for Fortran - A Place To Be/Sardines [Metro]. This was probably one of my favorite 12"s of last year. Ram Trilogy Pt 2 - Mind Overload [Ram] is great! Dom & Roland - Industry (available on CD) Usually everything Dom does is great! I'm not as into his latest single "Killa Bullet", it's not one of his better releases. V/A - Quantum Mechanics [Renegade Hardware] Great Comp V/A - Sound In Motion [Ram] Really good comp Outfit - Serum/New York [Metro} Pretty cool 12!! John B - Pressure (you might like this) I like the original version the best, the remix is suppose to be out next week. Decorum - All Mighty/Contrax [Liftin Spirits] Source Direct - Mind Weaver 12" [Science] The new Source Direct lp has some good cuts, but there is some filler. Mixed opinions about the LP as a whole. Definitely some good tracks on it. Technical Itch - Diagnostics [Moving Shadow] Pretty good Lp, you might want to listen to it for yourself to see if it's your style. There is a cut called "Reborn" that seems to be caned by everyone right now. I could list alot more but I don't have the time. Those in the LA Area don't miss the Virus Tour 6/29 @ The Troubador. mission control, the new compilation on Trouble on Vinyl is mesmerizing, though definitely indebted to the ram's latest forays into analog rudeness (which is fine with me -- i can't get enuff of the stuff). available as vinyl 5-pak or single cd, though as always i recommend the vinyl -- digital media never captures that monstrous low-end as powerfully as a needle in a groove does. jeff n.p.
