I find the rhythmic, poetic cadence of the title "Music Is Rotted One Note" preferable to the more workaday "Music Is One Rotted Note." Just to confuse things more, my copy of the British mag "Jockey Slut" (let's give a big thumbs-up to Jockey Slut at this point) has an enjoyable Squarepusher article/interview, complete with pictures of our boy Tom in a straitjacket...in this article they refer to the title as "Music Is One Rotted Note"...but I s'pose this issue may be a bit out of date since I bought it at a Border's in New Jersey. Anyway, this issue has UNKLE on the cover, and is likely to be up your alley if you like IDM...judging by the overlap of artists on this list and in that mag (and no, I don't work for them or anything). It's easy to understand where JOCKEY SLUt stands as a magazine. When the the first boc 12" came out on Skam where was the review ???? as soon as the album/cd cameout on Warp it's album of the month.... and now skam are the best or something "according to the magazine". A few back handers here and there and things start appearing in the magazine,,(alledgedly) I'm happy never to have been reviewed in there and long may it continue,,, the magazine though is exteremly forthcoming in comparing releases to us though (thanks for that HECTOR-JONESY)................ JOCKEY SLUt represents all that is wrong with the music industry and Music Media in General (ie NO IDEAs and lets MAKE LOTS OF MONEY BY ONLY COVERING THE LARGER LABELS)and especially represents the worst in MUSIc in MANCHESter. (HOW FAT IS YOUR CITY AND HOW GRAND YOUR CENTRAL????) =-------mancunians take note --- YOUR CITY is crumbling and we are laughing at YOU ALL from a distance............. Jockey SLUTs is Best avoided in the USA--- wear black goggles or read EXP or ATX or EAR or OBSESSIVE EYE for an alternative view on what's happening and to read what the INDUSTRY driven media won't publish because there's no money in it for them-----......... IT's ALL A LOAD OF TRIPE anyway::::::::: yours PIG MASK

Almost definitely.

Jockey Slut realised that its readership was growing a few years back and as soon as that happens you become scared to cover things that are not going to be appreciated by the "majority", it is completely a question of money. By its very nature (glossy, colour, mainstream), it cannot afford to do anything else. As my mate said the other day while flicking through its pages, "I'm over this now". Mixmag, Jockey Slut, ... same thing. __ |¬¬ The Cosmic Crofter crofter@ehx.ednet.co.uk - http://www.ednet.co.uk/~ehx

the the first boc 12" came out on Skam where was the review ???? as soon as the album/cd cameout on Warp it's album of the month.... and now skam are the best or something "according to the magazine". A few back handers here and there and things start appearing in the magazine,,(alledgedly)<< Perhaps when the first boc 12" came out they couldn't get hold of a copy... I know I couldn't and I'm sure a lot of people out there will echo me. I find Jockey Slut normally covers things pretty fairly and without any (most importantly) degree of pretentiousness. More importantly, they place more emphasis on stuff that you can go into any independent record shop and pick up. I've never been able to buy stuff on Skam, vvm, MAS type labels as my local shop doesn't have them on their computer before release and if they ever do get on the computer by then they are deleted or the distributors can't actually get hold of them (I had the Jega 12" on Skam on order for 3 months before giving up)! If I want them I have to buy these records the instant they come out or not have them at all. If I didn't have access to the internet then I would not even know they existed. Even then, there is some stuff like Mask 300 which I haven't got a fucking clue how to obtain a copy of as my regular channels can't get it. Hopefully somebody can sort out some MP3s like they did with Mask 200. If you want a magazine that represents wilfully obscure stuff then buy something like Obsessive Eye from the places that sell these records. If you want something that represents music that is as accessible as the magazine buy Jockey Slut. And they do champion interesting music as well as Bentley Rhythm Ace and UNKLE - in the past they've given excellent reviews to things like Jega, Funkstorung (before this list was well into them), Badly Drawn Boy, Coldcut etc. BABY DIDDY PS They should have their record label starting this month with future stuff including Jega, Add N to X, Stock Hausen and Walkman, Surgeon, Lionrock, 808 State, Two Lone Swordsmen - obviously they've picked up a few bribes to release this rather than putting out stuff they like. ___________________________________________ "Stupid Dance Music"

As far as I'm concerned Jockey Slut's just a bunch of pill-dropping freaks who sometimes get lucky. Buy one of those mags and try not to spot ten different articles or reviews that includes propaganda for a narcotic preparate of some kind. They're just sad. And I don't give much for their journalistst either (I don't think that I've read one single article without letting out a sigh or two). Betcha Lance or Aaron S Gregory could make a ten times better mag all by themselves. Although I must admit that I buy it sometimes, just because there's nothing better to pick up. Immerse is the shit but it doesn't really come out on a regular basis. BTW In the latest Jockey Slut they rank the 100 best "dance" compilations. Coldcut's JDJ was on no 1. Artificial Intelligence nr.2 or 3. "We Are Reasonable People" on 9 or something! Believe that. Well they don't know what they're talking about. Again.

That's a pretty naive argument. As I up in the very north of north Sweden could get ahold of a copy, I think you could expect one of the biggest magazines that cover the genre to be able to as well. That's just not the truth, ruth. Do you think they would've made a 4 page (or whatever) article about Squarepusher after his Spymania discs? Nah. I do agree. A little to much club culture but you can filter that out.

Wire isn't much better. Latest issue says Jake Mandell is in Phonecia. As far as I know that isn't the truth and it could have been easily verified.

isn't that just an opinion that doesnn't match yours? I am not sure you can say they don't know what they are talking about. Its an opinion not a fact. My whole point here wasn't to champion a magazine but to show that it isn't the corporate monster vvm makes it out to be. It definitely isn't God's gift to magazines but it has it's place. They don't represent what is wrong with electronic music. Being rash and not having an open mind is what is wrong with electronic music (btw, last statement is not aimed at you). -daniel
