Ok, while Im not totally new to Drum & Bass / Jungle, I got into it kind
of late because before it blew up here in the US, my British friends sent
me tapes of that new "Jungle Music" in the early 90's and while the sped
up dub plates, breaks & basslines were catchy, every tape he sent me had
some annoying DJ yelling/singing/narrating OVER the music - which pretty
much shot it in the head for me. So even after it invaded 'Merrika I was
put WAY off it, thinking of those idiots yelling on the radio tapes given
to me. So a few years ago, I gave it another chance, and was DELIGHTED
at the lack of yelling over how the dancers love their DJ and how great
Rizla papers were. Having always been a fan of Dub & Reggae, only one
bit of patois ever really confused me:
What the hell is a "Bombacloud" (sp?) ?????
They say it all the time!
Now Im CONSTANTLY raising praise to "Jah" and "Selassie-i". Im quite
confortable with "dub plate pressha" in my face, I often tip my hat to
the skills of "Da selecta" , and Im on my guard if "Babylon", a "Rude
Boy" or worse yet a "Solja-man come 'round", but I really dont know what
to do in the presence of a "Bombacloud". it definitely sounds like
something I need insurance or even rain gear for, but what is it?
