Ok, while Im not totally new to Drum & Bass / Jungle, I got into it kind of late because before it blew up here in the US, my British friends sent me tapes of that new "Jungle Music" in the early 90's and while the sped up dub plates, breaks & basslines were catchy, every tape he sent me had some annoying DJ yelling/singing/narrating OVER the music - which pretty much shot it in the head for me. So even after it invaded 'Merrika I was put WAY off it, thinking of those idiots yelling on the radio tapes given to me. So a few years ago, I gave it another chance, and was DELIGHTED at the lack of yelling over how the dancers love their DJ and how great Rizla papers were. Having always been a fan of Dub & Reggae, only one bit of patois ever really confused me: What the hell is a "Bombacloud" (sp?) ????? They say it all the time! Now Im CONSTANTLY raising praise to "Jah" and "Selassie-i". Im quite confortable with "dub plate pressha" in my face, I often tip my hat to the skills of "Da selecta" , and Im on my guard if "Babylon", a "Rude Boy" or worse yet a "Solja-man come 'round", but I really dont know what to do in the presence of a "Bombacloud". it definitely sounds like something I need insurance or even rain gear for, but what is it? da lion of Ft Worth, ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-4202 Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Oh, now I know what that awful "Bomberclaad Joint" thing by Knowtoryous on the K&D sessions refers to ... thanks... (it's the worst track on the comp, IMO). BUT : what does "IRIE" mean? That last consonent is a 't' I believe. I'm not entirely sure what it means, but I think it is related to 'Bloodclot' an insult of some sort in rasta terminology. Find a copy of the jamaican movie "Rockers." Its all in patois, but it has subtitles, thus you can learn more new and interesting Jamaican phrases to confuse your "baldhead" chums. Yes...'you bloodclat' is the direst insult in the rastafarian canon. The translation is 'Bloodcloth' which refers to the item ladies use during that (ahem...) 'difficult' time of the month. During this uh..period, all Rastafarian women are removed from view as they are adjudged 'unclean', hence the dire nature of the 'insult' from a rastafarian male viewpoint. I would advise very careful useage of this term when out and about as a friend of mine found himself in very bad trouble after mentioning it one time in St Pauls, Bristol. Matt. Hmm, I distinctly hear 3 syllables in the word (bom-BA-cla) when used in music as opposed to the 2, and it would be alarmingly out of place & context in the otherwise lighthearted type tracks Ive heard it in, but on the other hand its always good to know what NOT to say in Bristol so I do appreciate it. Ill have to listen more closely. ;) ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-4202 Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Bumbo-clot... hmm... Ok, mystery solved. im not quite sure how to react to the fact that all this time Ive been driving around in my truck with the stereo cranked yelling along to the music about ass-cloth toilet paper, but the important thing is Ive learned something!
