I have two AFX questions: I saw on a discog (not the Hyperreal one) a song called "Polynomial G" on In Order to Dance 5. Is this a typo of "Polymonial C", or a differant song? And who is in that picture with him throwing the rock? Thanks. Adam

Nope, he hasn't done detroit techno, euro techno, happy hard, gabber (thank someone! :), house or the myriad of other styles of techno out there, BUT he is prolific and covered a lot of the bases. :) Regards, John /-------------------------------------------------------------------\ | JOHN BUS (aka. Hi, I have the opportunity to buy Aphex Twin's SAW II (the limited brown vinyl version on WARP) at a nifty price. However, I already have the 2cd version (missing one track of course). I wanted to know if the brown vinyl version is very limited (how many copies) and if it is at all valuable (as a collector's thing). Thanks, dv8

speaking of Aphex Twin SAWII: less then 30 seconds after I finished sending that last post, my girlfriend walked in and threw a copy of Aphex Twin "Words & Music" at me...she said she found it yesterday in a local bookstore for $.25! does anyone know the scoop with this CD? Now I've got 3 copies and none of them have a front cover booklet. It sez "Promotion Only" and I found one in a thrift store, one in a pawnshop and the other in a bookstore...but never in a record store. wierd isn't it? I wonder if they sent these promos out to all of the Newage / EZ listening stations and they said "whoh, look at that scary guy on the CD, we can't play something like that" and then threw them out with their old clothes, toasters and shit. oh well, I like it! word to the mothership, brock np: "Flying High" - The Irresistible Force (still)

They didn't come with a front cover booklet. It's a US promo-only interview disc... some tracks off of SAWII, very short interview bits with RDJ, snippets of live performances, and an *exclusive* track (if you want to call it that - but then again, why the hell not?). I would imagine that they were sent to all of the undeserving record shops, radio stations, and periodicals throughout the US in an attempt to actually be listened to. Instead, they just ended up as lunch money [trade fodder] for those who got them in the first place. Liberate the promos I say! cisum. .`-). @@ -' christopher miller o.' evil@digital.net ' on: "Interactive Music" by INTERACTIVE MUSIC (aka Atom Heart).

Yeah, that fooled me - I thought someone was impersonating him as it seemed that there were a couple of posts from the same person (same user name and writing style, anyway) at different addresses. As I recall the post was really funny... Maybe the opinions on this list were part of the reason he said he thought his fans were weird. GD

Well, I've only been into AFX since last summer, but my first album was Classics. My 2nd's were I Care Because You Do and SAW2. I was told by someone I should either start with Classics or Analogue Bubblebath I, now I have both and many others, but I think maybe Classics, I Care Because You Do or Richard D. James LP. Or maybe Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (the 1st one). SAW2 is really 'challenging' so I wouldn't recommend that for a first AFX experience, even if you've heard a few tracks from it. But However, if you get SAW2, make sure you get the Warp release, as it has one track that the Sire release doesn't have :) -- Hillie aka Aurafix / DAMONES hillien kotisivu - http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html easy internet services - http://huizen.dds.nl/~eis Do re mi fa so la ti.. Actually the IDM list just got through (I hope) going over and over the critique of the new album. It's in the archives I believe. You'll also learn Gonzi, an AFX fan if there was one, is the list comedian. I have to say I chuckled aloud at his reply. I still think that all of his earlier works are the best. Some of the Caustic Window stuff is dodgy. I think the RDJ is good, but not as good as alot of his older material.

Odd how no one really wants to talk about RDJ but everyone still does. =) His early works are really in no comparison with the latest, SAW is one of the most beautiful albums I've ever heard. Ventolin is way underappreciated in my point of view. What comes to the appreciation of Come to Daddy, the infamous pappy mix of it, I would see the bad reputation it has on the Intelligent Dance Music list has something to do with the fact that the song is not quite 'intelligent'. (go ahead, think about this a bit - to me it is pretty much saying "fuck you for categorizing me and trying to make me an idol") Meanwhile RDJ has proved he has the skills, listen to the other tracks on the ep, as IZ-US and flim, why not even Bucephalus (assuming it was not randomly programmed on the sequencer.. =) If I'd want to hear a several hour symphony composed by one modern musician, it'd be RDJ. Unfortunately he's just playing around with the publicity he's getting in the scene. -- jari nousiainen / super attaK ... +358 40 529 6324 ... j.nousiainen@kolumbus.fi ... http://www.kolumbus.fi/j.nousiainen/ ...
