Who came up with this magical notion that "come to daddy" was some sort of "poke" at The Prodigy?? is it just because there's actual continuous "singing" (hyper-distorted of course..) with faux guitar??? Seems there's a bit more effort, program and production wise, put into this song to simply dismiss it as a "joke." and to produce a video to go along with it does require some sort of budget. wouldn't it be EXTREMELY unwise to invest this much time and money in something that isn't supposed to be taken seriously? considering the fact that r. james does own and run a business, why would he "waste" rephlex's money simply to make fun of another group?? (considering the fact that he seems to bust his ass "managing" rephlex records...) what would be the point anyway?? yeah, he portrays an image of being, um, a bit "loopy," but never acted as if he had to "prove" anything. (as in, why should he really care what The Prodigy is doing??? or anyone else for that matter...) Did he personally tell an almighty super-elite IDM subscriber that this was his "plan??" i really fucking doubt it. It's a damn catchy song, with above average drum programming (the drums and sorts during the "break" in the song are quite impressive..), one of the most realistic guitar patches i've ever heard, and lyrics that might be repetitive, but don't contain any "self-mockings" about his own voice, samples of his mom/mum, or incredible nonsense. so if this is the Intelligent Dance Music list, where's the intelligence? do you have to take a test or something?? (my I.Q. is about 118. is that high enough to post?) Could change the name to ADM (arrogant dance music) for those who love to rip into "newbies" or anyone who doesn't own three turntables and a "i'm a D.J, worship me." bumper sticker... Come to Daddy ("Baby, Come to Daddy." - Nitzer Ebb), chrisTiaN -- " In the future people will think it strange that we only ever used the phone to talk to one another. SUPER. Work Together. "

To extract some seriousness from your hyperventilation, I'm seriously considering including some theory of multiple intelligence into the eventual re-write of the IDM list primer. Although I obviously don't have all the facets of such a metaphor defined, (yet) my ideas are smoothe enough to allay any fear of conventional wisdom (ie. aint no one gonna quantify my I.Q.) creeping out from under an idological fossilized rock. If you feel subjected to unfair treatment due to some listmembers reaction to receiving idm-digest posts "outside" of their usual deliveries, I apologize. You were in fact, the helpful catalyst to our figuring out we had not properly set up majordomo's errant post redirecting alias on the new machines email software. Err.... first of all, this is Warp's money (Aphex Twin's material is property of Warp, and they do all the goo for him). I admire him (or is it Grant?) busting his/their ass(es) over Rephlex. Good for them.... there's some fabulous material put out on the label (need I remind you once again of last summer's fabulous new vulva album). But frankly, I've pretty much seen every single thing Aphex puts out as a pisstake. Even his very first album, Selected Ambient Works 85-92 was a pisstake.... (1985? Little Richard was a sly 11-12 years old?) What I mean to say is, I've always found Richard's work to have a real gritty childish sense of humour about it. From those hair-raising stonky acid tracks to his first squiggles of blurpy jungle.... I've always felt he was mocking the genre somehow. Like taking drum'n bass, and beating it with a big stick. He's got complete control over his releases, and he can put out whatever he wants. He wanted to do a silly prodigy-esqe (for lack of a better description) track, so he did. No one is denying that he's talented... and puts a lot of work into his tracks. But it's crazy to deny Richard of being playful with the music industry's latest genres.

in this case, he is wasting warp's money. in addition, this isnt the first time that he has taken time/money to make something that isnt serious. almost every release of his has at least one song that is silly to the point of;a. annoyance b. laughter c. combination of the above. see girl/boy ep, hab 1 (mashed potatoes)

it may not be nonsense, but it doesnt make sense either.

intelligent dance MUSIC, not "intelligent people who listen to dance music." this list, like any other, has some smart folks, and some who arent. cl

I'm sorry, but I agree with Christian here.. I was rather annoyed when I heard the actual track and it was nothing like the ppl on this list were saying. Furhermore, I no longer take the opinions of this list seriously anymore or even consider them until I've heard the track in question. I would say that some people on this list are the piss-takers and not necassarily RDJ. It is highly possible he could be making fun of the Prodigy, but who gives a fuck? I mean.. I am damn sure that all of the ppl on this list bitching about it didn't hear it from Richard personally so give it up. and Milkman is not annoying, and backing up Christian's point of Richard wasting Warp's money, well.. Milkman doesn't have a video attached to it now does it? and about Children Talking I think that's a good track and don't think it's a "pisstake," a word which some of you can't seem to say enough times.

I do, I do! But I can't deny that a certain juvenile theme runs through the entire disc. Not once have I accused RDJ of being a less than brilliant composer....he's just a talented goofy kid making fun music that just happens to sound damn good. as you mentioned previously in your statement, "i no longer take the opinions of this list seriously...", why should i take you seriously if i think milkman is annoying? i can make up my own mind. in addition, a song can be a waste of money on its own, a video is not a necessity, although it certainly adds to the financial impact. and thirdly, i did not use the word pisstake , nor do i plan on using it anytime soon.

if it made perfect sense, you would not have to guess about it. i am pretty sure there is not a concensus on this list either as to what it stands for, if anything. i would like to think that i could share my opinion, flawed as they may be, without getting ripped with generalizations about the entire list. cl

I was just referring to the bashing of the track because quote, it's a prodigy pisstake, and frankly everytime there's a flame of the sort on the list, somehow it's not entirely accurate. this time it was a bit too much.

hm. I was responding to the person who said everything RDJ does is a pisstake. maybe I got it confused, but it is still a word that is used entirely too much on here. the pisstakers are the ones bitching and taking a piss at come to daddy because it's simply a poke at the prodigy.
