After listening to this EP a few times, I'd say this kind of spotty, pretty much like anything RDJ does anymore. My observations: "Come to Daddy, Pappy mix". This is marginal even as a pisstake. Maybe this will appeal to Prodigy fans who don't get the humor. Whatevah. "Flim". Beautiful. Gorgeous. Nice melody w/appropiately reverbed harp and ocarina-ish sounds; beats are smooth and subdued. Damn, why doesn't Mr. James make more tracks like this one? Also nice how he adds another measure at the end of some of the sections. "Come to Daddy, Little Lord Faulteroy mix". Silly samples of kids. Doesn't sound much like the "Pappy mix"; beats are a lot slower and there's more melody. "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball". Kind of gimmicky what with the bouncing ball-like effects. Mostly a rhythmic exercise with a bit of wobbly synth melody tacked on. Autechre used a ball-like sound to much better effect on "Cichlisuite". Sounds a lot like that "Spotlight" remix on the Wagon Christ 'Redone EP'. "To Cure A Weakling Child, Contour Regard". Pretty similar to the original - sounds like he took the source recording and then just applied various effects to it for the first part of it. The rest of it has the melody slowed down and refitted over a slightly different set of beats. "Funny Little Man". Nobody told me RDJ was supposed to remix an outtake from Prince's "Black Album". Out of all of the pop-music forays, this track is the most enjoyable. Nice poppy synth bass sounds alongside Star Wars droid chatter. Now if he would just do a version of "If I Was Your Girlfriend"... "Come To Daddy, Mummy mix." More rhythmic exercises with distorted bells, laser sounds, and peeling metal. A few well-placed dialogue samples. "IZ-US". This is more a Plug-style number with what sounds like sampled beats that aren't his own. All mixed with a bit of slightly melancholy synth tuneage. A sort of funky beat creeps in at the end. All in all not an excellent release, but worth the money. Worth the buy just for "Flim" and "Funny Little Man". GD

For what it's worth, the 'vocal elements' are provided by Richard himself. I think it's his usual trick of calling a track a mix when in fact it's almost entirely unrelated to the original. It's probably my favourite on the whole release, primarily on account of the drum programming. adam

how funny. i think funny little man sucks. sounds like nintendo. but i love IZ-US. to me it sounds vaguely like saw85-92 stuff. totally in agreement about flim though. differences in opinion are beautiful things. alan! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

i think this is to circumvent the bpi rulings on 12 inch singles - ie they allow a certain amount of original tracks on a 12 before it is classed as an lp, but you are allowed more tracks if they are called 'remixes' - in reality, these mixes have nothing at all to do with each other, it was the same on girl/boy cheerio! np - reckless - chris the glove and ice t

no, a lot of ppl have been telling me this. to clear all the confusion up. the tracks on the 12" are there so that the dirty little boy song is the 4th song on the first (vinyl) disc. It appears that the tracks have been switched around on the CD or something, or the names were written wrong if they meant to switch the tracks. dunno __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ www.freq-div.home.ml.org
