Gooood luck buddy boy. My experience with burning CDs on a 180mhz PowerMac and a 166mhz Windoze machine is that you had better not breathe wrong on the machine while it is playing. Opening other applications can cause breakdowns in the recording process. I really doubt that the 68030 Mac has the oomph to stream the data out to the CDR in a constant manner. It might just be my CDR that has the problem, but I figured that Sony had things fairly well together.

Oh I agree here. On my 100Mhz pentium machine I have to close out of everything, free up as much memory as possible, and fast for three days before I can get a good write. I've probably toasted a half a dozen CD-Rs, but I'm still getting around 70-80% so it's okay. I unfortunatly don't have any experience with CDrs on macs, but you better have atop notch SCSI card on a windows machine to be moderatly successful. Then again, I often get weird hardware errors with the Pinacle drive we have. So I'm not sure what the problem is. __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ gil yaker / orbital@hazmat.com

I write: Maybe I'm just lucky, but I burn about 10 CD's a week here at work on a Quadra (40Mhz) with Toast 3.0. We have 2 burners, one on a qudra, one on a 7200, and I have never burned a bad CD... I don't think fast machines is the issue. Get yourself a fast burner and an AV capable hard drive, and you're set- Nate Nate Harrison Digital Magician Inc. www.digimagician.com nate@digimagician.com 313.994.7316

hmm, i have a lowly 100mhz powermac 8100 and it has never written a dud yet (except for when i installed a new philips 2600 unit which turned out to be defective. i got a replacement unit (same model) and it immediately burned 12 perfect discs). of course, the mac software doesn't multitask in any way at all, so once the disc starts writing i just turn off the monitor and go away for 30 minutes. try to get software that can use system RAM as buffer space. i use 16 meg of buffer in my cpu and the unit itself has 1mb, so underruns are very unlikely. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...
