recently every mention of mike paradinas's albums mu-ziq: 'urmur bile trax' and his jake slazenger: 'das ist ein groovybeat, ja' has been bad. i have heard people say that his first albums were much better and that these recent ones are crap: listen to this: "'ok his first 2 albums were good..but he?s treading water now isn't he?' i would be the first to argue that the jake slazenger, gary mocheles & umur bile trax project were austere examples of an artist resting on his metaphysical laurels." i do not agree with this at all! the jake slazenger album is one of the grooviest, funkiest, jazziest things i have come across.. and urmur bile is some of the most varied and creative breakbeat i have ever heard.. and mike&rich is probably my favorite album that i have right now.. (it falls into his slazenger or mocheles mood a bit) for those of you who do not like these, why!? grav

Easy! Das ist ein groovy beat was a sloppy album.... a boring, lifeless attempt of breathing life into a very tired genre. The first Jake Slaz album had its moments for sure, but diegb was a sorry attempt at jazzy funk.... oops. Urmur too had its moments.... indeed the track, "Let Let" is a fine example of squeeky drum'n bass that warped and waddles through polyrhythmic percussion.... yet so much of that disc just gets dragged down in monontenous blathery of drumloops gone stale. At least the disc was not at full price. You have to hear Tango'n Vectif to understand the comparison. Aaron

hmm.. i dunno. I still think it is pretty funky & jazzy. I have not heard or heard of the first Slaz album? What is it called?

I have not heard that.. only In Pine Effect and Spatula Kid besides those 2.. ok, thanks for good arguments at least :)

I think the reason is that although IMO these are good records (except the Moscheles one, which gets pretty tiresome) they just don't stand up to the magnificence of his earlier work. Tango 'n Vectif and Bluff Limbo are both blinders. Fabulous distorted techno beats with tunes to melt your heart, wierd ambience and an overall breadth of sound which astonishes (me, anyway). Makes a Racket is also incredible with the most tunefull funkiest funk with MP trademark crazy whitles all over the place. Day Time Kiss, Mega Phonk, Acid Pope - need I go on. The later work its all fine stuff to be sure and I'll happily listen to it, but it just doesn't measure up. Cheers, Andrew C. PS - Sorry for the purple prose, but I'm sure you understand :)

I have not heard Tango 'n Vectif or Bluff Limbo or Makes a Racket :( Besides Urmur Bile and Groovybeat, I have heard only In Pine Effect, which is good, and Spatula Freak, which I didn't like as much.. So, although I still can't see why some people would dislike the 2 albums I own (UB and DIEG), I guess I need to hear some of his earlier stuff ;] ... grav
