here's what my gas album tells me. gas: em:t 0095 1 generator 0000 00'33" (mistimed, really 00'36") 2 experiments on live electricity 16'36" * 3 microscopic 09'50" (mistimed, really 09'53") 4 miniscule 00'00" pixels 01'27" (mistimed, really 01'30") 5 vapourwave 02'00" (mistimed, really 01'30") 6 SeOCl2 00'33" (mistimed, really 00'35") 7 earthsake 09'15" (mistimed, really 08'57") 8 mathematics and electronics 12'30" (mistimed, really 12'50") 9 timestretch 00'01" earthloop 03'40" (mistimed, really 03'47") ** 10 f 00'20" (mistimed, really 00'50") 11 H2TeO3 00'20" (mistimed, really 10'49") *** 12 discovery 10'30" (mistimed, really 05'00") 13 generator 0072 01'20" (does not appear on CD) total timing: 72'48" made in england, distrubuted by pinnacle packaging: white eco-pack design. * appears in full-form on the em:t/instinct comp "em:t explorer" (1996) ** contains samples from "pot sounds" on "satyricon" by meat beat manifesto (1992) *** tracks 11 and 12 are mixed together review: well, i loved "experiments..." from the explorer comp and picked this up on the basis of that recording alone. brilliant track. long and drawn out and INCREDIBLE, wondering atmospherics, beats, and a build-up that truly tickles the brain. there's also some darkness to it as some of the heavier synth lines seem to be summoning some large beast for battle!! "miscoscopic" is more minimal and reminds me of "turquoise hexagon sun" (second cut on the "hi scores" ep by boards of cananda, on SKAM of course...), nonetheless very good. "pixels" and the rest of short cuts (so very em:t-like of course: some bizarre, some disturbing, some bleep-bloopy, some watery) are probably missing from jen's GERMAN version. "vapourwave," whilst having nothing to do with vapourspace or mark gage for that matter, sounds minimal and serene and quite lo-fi like "microscopic". "earthsake" is another bright spot on the album and sounds as if gier jenssen were doing his best lounge routine. oh no, not in that jake slaz style, in that BIOSPHERE style...very chewy and quite tasty. first/only evidence of vocals (goldfrappish) on the album whatsoever. "mathematics" has to be my other fave (along with "experiments" and "earthsake") as it appears very much in the same vein as "experiments" with great dark patterns and loops that drift in and out. again, another great build and culminating feature track. bloody fuckin brilliant if you aks me. why track 11 (hydrotelerium oxide, for you chemical superfreaks) is mistimed by over 10 minutes is beyond me. nonetheless, another slow mover, em:ting sounds like "microscopic" and "turquoise" in the beginning and building with beats and dark synth lines (yes, quite SKAMmy i'd say)...lahhhhrvely. the whole timing thing is really no big deal. the album plays beautifully as a whole. 100% electronic music that cannot go wrong. asg

2 different GASes there, as far as I know - the GAS that jen got is on Mille Plateaux and is actually Mike Ink (who records for lotsa labels, but I don't think he does em:t). He also records as Love, Inc. on Force Inc. There ain't no connection between the 2 GASes. As far as other worthwhile releases, he's got tracks on the Electric Ladyland I, II, and III compilations on Mille Plateaux (I think he's on all 3, but not sure), he's also on Mille Plateaux's Modulations & Transformations 2 compilation, and he's got *tons* of other stuff out on Force Inc (and other labels) under his own name. I'd suggest searching the web for his name and see how much stuff comes up. Hope this helps... cya brian (whose finger is tired from hitting that "d" key)
