review:
well, i loved "experiments..." from the explorer comp and picked this up on the basis
of that recording alone. brilliant track. long and drawn out and INCREDIBLE,
wondering atmospherics, beats, and a build-up that truly tickles the brain. there's
also some darkness to it as some of the heavier synth lines seem to be summoning some
large beast for battle!! "miscoscopic" is more minimal and reminds me of "turquoise
hexagon sun" (second cut on the "hi scores" ep by boards of cananda, on SKAM of
course...), nonetheless very good. "pixels" and the rest of short cuts (so very
em:t-like of course: some bizarre, some disturbing, some bleep-bloopy, some watery)
are probably missing from jen's GERMAN version. "vapourwave," whilst having nothing
to do with vapourspace or mark gage for that matter, sounds minimal and serene and
quite lo-fi like "microscopic". "earthsake" is another bright spot on the album and
sounds as if gier jenssen were doing his best lounge routine. oh no, not in that jake
slaz style, in that BIOSPHERE style...very chewy and quite tasty. first/only evidence
of vocals (goldfrappish) on the album whatsoever. "mathematics" has to be my other
fave (along with "experiments" and "earthsake") as it appears very much in the same
vein as "experiments" with great dark patterns and loops that drift in and out.
again, another great build and culminating feature track. bloody fuckin brilliant if
you aks me. why track 11 (hydrotelerium oxide, for you chemical superfreaks) is
mistimed by over 10 minutes is beyond me. nonetheless, another slow mover, em:ting
sounds like "microscopic" and "turquoise" in the beginning and building with beats and
dark synth lines (yes, quite SKAMmy i'd say)...lahhhhrvely. the whole timing thing is
really no big deal. the album plays beautifully as a whole. 100% electronic music
that cannot go wrong.
