One of my personal favorites is Woob2 4495. Others I have found - em|t 2000, 5595, Explorer (<--Compiations), Woob 1194, International Peoples Gang 3395. I have seen Gas, Miasma and Quibism, but haven't bought 'em yet. I really like Woob a lot. But in general I like all of the Em|it releases. Since they tend to be a bit more on the Ambient tip, they come up in threads on the Ambient list all the time. Perhaps if you don't get enough info here then sub the Ambient list as well. I can't stop playing Gas lately, both the first and the latest on Mille Plateux. My question here for all you spotter types and musicologists ( Lance ) is: anything else by Gas other than the EMIT stuff? perhaps under other names? 12" only stuff? Rarities? What am I missing? With the recent mention on Stock Hausen and Walkman, I throw in another recommendation for Dummy Run: Ice Cream Headache, the "drum and bass" alter ego of SH+W. Takes a dump from a mile high on most "drill and bass", uses conventional and unconventional breaks and, can you handle it (?), has a sense of humor! Where is the *unabridged and up to date* Muslimgauze discography? I now have 20-30 releases and am quite interested in checking out the other 700 or so. Lock Grooves: I have some Red Planet 12"s ( Detroit techno ) that go from start to finish and then play back, an infinite record. I think I also have some other techno stuff along those lines. Also, did'nt at least one of those "Environments" records from the 70's play in the same manner? I used to have a Psychic TV 7" that played in the parallel groove manner: drop the needle and get Genesis P Orridge, drop the needle and get Jim Jones, Charles Manson or William Burroughs. I don't think I ever heard the whole thing as every needle drop was a new track, at least for the 5 minute duration. I also remember a Jamaican reggae 12" that was so cheap and thin that when you play it, you heard *the music from the other side* coming through!!!!!! Hard to believe, yeah.... A brief Gas discog... . Gas: Zauberberg cd/2x12" (Mille Plateaux) . Gas: Gestaltung cd/3x12" (Mille Plateaux) . Gas: Modern 12" (Profan) and a track on the Profan comp cd. but really, Zauberberg is the only Gas album that has that amazingly deep sound. the Profan 12" is almost there. And there is a track by Gas titled 'Earthshake' on a compilation called Highway & Landscape (2xcd). This compilation features J. Beltran, D. Angel, Sun Electric & others and is superb.

short of having grooves actually cross over each other, is there a little ramp at the end of the inner groove that makes the stylus jump up and away from the center and land on the very edge (starting groove) of the record again?! Explain this, sir!

Hmm, on both sides? wow, yeah, ..i guess I can imagine that...hm... strange to think of that considering that flexidiscs have decently deep grooves (eh,) yet I haven't heard that happenning there. Many listees know that I'm a Gas fan. I have the first CD on MP ( self titled? ) , Zauberberg and Konigsforst and the Oktember 12". Was'nt there an EMIT CD, too? also, any other recomms. for dark, ambient, orchestral, minimal, driving, moving material like Gas? Name artists and labels; I'm pretty hip to *similar* stuff, but I just can't quite find more material as powerful as this. The Gas on MP is the alias of Wolfgang Voigt (he of Profan, Studio One, Mike Ink, and several million other DBAs), whereas the Gas on Em:t derives from a completely different creature - although it is also quite magically delicious in a very different way. there was, but it DEFINITELY wasn't voight/ink. don't have the disc to hand, but i think it was a couple of chancers from mid-uk.

strange, but i heard a cd playing in a room the other day which i was convinced must be a new voigt-gas joint. turned out to be the new david sylvian instrumental/ambient album, approaching silence... I've just recently listened to Gas on the two emit compilations explorer and 2000. Wow! I can't believe how much dust these two compilations have been gathering in my room. Reminds me of Global Communication 76:14. the em:t gas is a guy from nottingham called mat jarvis. the other gas is voight,of course. i have mat jarvis's 0095 album,and some trax he sent me from the album = that didnt get released.he's sorting out a new deal(it was 2 months = since ive spoke to him),so i dont know what the score is now. he wrote to voigt a good while ago to alert him to the fact that he had = chosen the same name,and would obviously cause confusion in the = electronica circles,but there was no reply. the 'other' gas's best album is the first one for me-'gas'. more primitive and coarser in feel,but more melodic. the only gas thing im missing is oktember,if anyone's got it? i'd love to get my hands on all his kriesel stuff as well. ive got a list of what ive got,and a list of stuff i want up on my page@ tadley.u-net.com if anyones interested. cdr only,though. although i can be temted by mp3 sometimes. col
