I have this theory about the new Mike & Rich album. I won't review it as I'm sure it's been reviewed to death in the three weeks I've been gone. I believe that Mike & Rich must have spent 48 hours without sleep. During this period they listened to the track "Monster in My Pants", by Fred Schneider (B-52's) on infinite repeat. When the 48 hours were over, they said, "Now, we are ready for lounge-funk." Just a theory, but I do love the album. Not what I expected, but enjoyable all the same. BTW, has anybody heard the Mark Broom album on Pure Plastic? If it's as good as what he dj's, I want it. Since someone mentioned Pure Plastic, I have Pure Plastic 04 & 06. I heard that Pure Plastic 05 has Plaid on it, but I haven't found it yet. Can anyone on IDM tell me about the other 5 releases? What artist are on the 12"s? I have one with Stasis & Mark Broom. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . E D U On now: Kraftwerk - The Man Machine

I believe most of the Pure Plastic tracks are done by Mark Broom and Dave Hill, with the occasional guest spot (Stasis, Plaid, etc.). - Matthew

Brilliant. Entirely different from what I expected, and better than I could have hoped. M&R collide their patented rhythmic crunch with old surf-rock riffs, stately big band promenades and mystery movie themes with wildly successful results. There's two tracks I always skip (the first and the one with the burping), but the rest of it is genius. It's mood lies somewhere between the Auteurs remixes and Ventolin, with a much less malignant edge. The startlingly negative knee-jerk reactions this album has received on IDM make me think that people need to lighten up a bit around here. Also superb is the new Elfish Echo album on KM20. Imagine a meeting of Silver Sound-era Atom Heart with Spanners-mode Black Dog. Beautiful attention to detail, all kinds of crazy sounds, tracks that progress and develop, and absolutely nutty breakbeat percussion breaking out all over the place. I haven't heard a better IDM-ish record this year. Miles (Waiting impatiently for the new Vulva lp)
