Just scammed a promo, although I'm not sure whether it's _Cylobian Sunset_ or the _Loops and Breaks_ thing. I think its the first one for the simple reason that there uh, aren't any obvious loops and breaks on it. Trainspotting phreaks - the cat is CAT033LP. Think of the Kinesthesia LP but with more beats and a little less simplicity and you're on the right lines. Highlights are the moody last track on side one, the shuffling AFX funk of the first track on side two (due to appear on a Teep mixtape near you soon, I'll wager) and the gorgeous chords on track four, side two. My copy is only one slab of vinyl - for some reason I thought _Sunset_ was two. Whatever, there are four tracks on the first side and five on the second so it must be a pretty large LP if its a double. Anyway, on the few quick listens I've had, this sounds like it could be the best Chris Jeffs release yet. Pretty fucking good although without the balls of the Kinesthesia 12"s. And to reiterate, nothing like _Industrial Folk Songs_. Also picked up Photeks _Hidden Camera_ which I passed up last week in favour of the Squarepusher LP. Needless to say it's the mutts nuts. And finally, this is probably my last post as I leave uni. tomorrow (assuming here that I actually passed my exams :) so see y'all and take care. Right - I'm off down the pub. So, are there two new Cylob lps? I assumed they'd just changed the title before they actually got around to releasing it.

AFAIK, _Cylobean Sunset_ is the LP, while _Loops & Breaks_ is just a kind of DJ tool thingie.... - Matthew

_Rewind!_ 12". Kind of funny the first time you hear it - slowish electro breaks and rapping by a computerised voice. I got bored of it after the second listen though, it sounds a bit electro/big-beat - a run of the mill DMX Krew remix and some bonus beats on the flip. I was hoping for an old beautiful Cylob track on the flip or something but nope. Ah - for another _Kobal_ or _Lave Trader_... || [CiM] || cim_@hotmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

'lobster tracks' is completely mental- continues where 'latest effort' left off, but more melodious. Tracks; Scram: v. minimal (more so than cylobian sunset tracks) and super funky melodies are very nicely skewed, putting the D in IDM bigstyle Mod you later: more distorted than scram & only 1 min long- nice & concise Wanking off on other people's misery: darker and squelchier. drum sounds from the chegere track on 'latest effort' Mano a Mano: (ha ha ha) see 'call now below' Smash up the pram: really mental. v. harsh sounds for melody- sound like very short samples looped. Stomping FM: very abstract beginning- goes into a sort of stuttery drexcian world. in fact i reckon aquatic imagery goes well with the whole release. the cd cover has a lobster djing (drawn by a certain chris cunningham), and i reckon you could make quite a good video for the first track - like the chembros 'hey boy, hey girl'- but with rendered sea creatures raving it up Grillerwarfare: pounding stomping in the oldstyle AFX tradition but with more delicate analogue squeals Call now: (hehe he) I'm not one for having adverts (or parodies of them) on cds but this is quite funny- take off of one of the lame phone-chat adverts we get between late night programs in the UK caaaaall nooow overall: if you like 'latest effort' (as i do) you should really enjoy this if youve only heard 'cylobian sunset' (heavily recommended btw) with its simplicity and warmth then you should probably try before buying if youre not a raver at heart. Talking of raving ('taste the flavor of the ultimate raver') the open transport album by 'MDK' is *really* good- nice mixture of tracks- funky/noisy, some reminicent (and sampling- BDPSMP?) of bytes black dog. they have some stuff at mp3.com- the track 'vi' melts my heart. also, the new Uziq is really good too (im even warming to the drill & bass numbers) and I'm getting into squarepushers new material a lot too (took a lot of walkman listening tho), worth being patient (like ae) -- Jameel Syed http://ruby.doc.ic.ac.uk/ __________________________________________________________________________ University: jas5@doc.ic.ac.uk Personal: jameel_syed@bigfoot.com Mobile: 0780 335 6317 0C7F E831 BD47 176B 80B6 A70C 6265 FE45 1B46 894C
