I've been looking for Creator, any idm programmers out there know who makes it?

Probably for live stuff (mmt8 main advantage being 8 toggle buttons for 8 channels of looping midi data) as the computer would be less roadworthy... I wouldn't mention the 303 either given the present crime rate surround those toys, plus the ms10 kicks its' butt anyway... I hope this asbestos suit still fits! It used to be C-Lab, but they are now known as E-Magic. I don't know whether they still make Creator, or have left it to concentrate on Notator, Notator Logic etc...

Yeah, Orbital use two MMT8s, and I've also seen Pressure of Speech and Speedy J using them live. It seems to be a pretty popular live techno tool... See ya Tom Churchill E-mail: tom@chrchfam.demon.co.uk Electronic DJ and musician

There are PLENTY of tools out there that work for live sequencin just as well (if not better) than the mmt8, and many of them make better studio pieces as well. Not that I am up for telling what pieces I mean ( I have to keep some secrets ;). The mmt8 is DEFINITELY a huge winner in the bang-for-the-buck category, but you do not "have to have one" to play live as previously mentioned. -- Kennen Sie eine Merle? Kennen Sie eine Merle? Snurk! Starting gear crazes again. MMT8s are cheap, easy to use, and easy to get. Any of a number of self-contained sequencer boxes would work just as well. I hope Mr. Allert had his tongue in his cheek! Before all you young dudes start slavering over the MMT8s keep in mind it is to MIDI music what a CD player is CD's -- it don't make the noise. And you don't need MIDI at all to play techno live. If you've got the right gear you can play a whole set with CV/Gate. -- Newt Gingrich + Richard Simmons = Annoying fat guy who wants you to bleed while you sweat. kent.williams@cadsi.com [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241/(319)626-6700]

Well, you can only use CV/Gate and analogue sync if all your synths are monphonic and analogue - I know Ege Bam Yasi plays live like this, syncing 303s, 909s and 808s etc. But if you're using a sampler or any other MIDI equipment, as in at least 90% of the cases, then you DO need MIDI, unless you're using backing tape... I know there's plenty of stuff that can outperform the MMT8, but they ARE cheap, and they work more like a drum machine, with pattern looping etc, making them well suited to techno - why pay more when they do the job so well? Still on a gear tip, can anyone mail me privately with any recommendations for a new synth? My shortlist so far includes: Emu Morpheus, Korg Wavestation (SR, EX or A/D), Roland JD800, expanded Roland JV80/880. I will probably be buying second-hand or ex-demo, so if anyone's got anything to sell, too... See ya Tom Churchill E-mail: tom@chrchfam.demon.co.uk Electronic DJ and musician

<zzt> Actually the JX3P's clock-in can be triggered by x0x boxes or gates and is the clock for a polyphonic step sequencer, so chords are not at all ruled out! Dumb question: what is the 0 in the x0x naming scheme for? Nothing? (hah!) Not true. There are plenty of polys that can work via cv\gate. The prophet 5 and Oberheim 4 voice just to name 2. My fave live trick is to run MIDI equipped synths via cv with a Roland op8m cv->midi converter.
