Further to the thread about MBV (IMHO a *top* band) being almost IDM, I'm
suprised that no-one's mentioned Spacemen 3/Spiritualised in the ambient rock
stakes; if you don't believe me (doubters!) have a listen to the Big City/Drive
ep (Spacemen 3) or the album Lazer Guided Melodies (Spiritualised). Both these
are very much minimal drone rock; sound to wash over you and do your head in.
Vastly underrated (I would like to say 'and seminal' to fill in the cliche, but
I can't think of anyone sounding like them off the top of my head) and the
business live. Well worth a listen.
