Running a label is like any other project... Come up with your plan and
execute it. Let it start small. Sell your CDs direct to the public at
shows that you throw and/or play. Then sell to local shops willing to
take shit on commision. Make friends with a geek, and get a good site
together. Or go all MP3. Find new places to promote yourself, figure out
what works and doesn't. Research the industry, plenty of info abound
(i've attached something to get you started). Make friends with other
label owners, and work with them on their own project, until you get a
feel for how it works. Have a support system. Friends and Associates
that are willing to spread the word, and help do the work it takes. Go
to shows. Everyone in Electronic Music is extremely accessible,
especially at their gigs. I mean I've booked or helped throw a number of
events with local/national/international artists.... almost all of them
hang out in the crowd before and after their gig. Have Fun. Cuz if it's
a labor of love, and you hate every minute of it. And more than likely,
you should Hire Andrew Jones.
mad love,
