i wish i lived in chicago. the soviet full length "we are eyes, we are builders" is excellent. probably one of my favorite albums of the year so far. it is classic synth-pop with some modern flourishes, and utterly devoid of irony, as was mentioned below. in fact the lyrics on most of the tracks are fairly thoughtful and at times, i think romantic might be the right word, but without being cheesy (though this is synthpop, remember). the vocals are dead on depeche mode, but i don't think soviet sounds like a rip-off act. candy girl is easily my favorite track on the album. but, it's definitely not the only good track. of the 12 tracks, i find only one to be so so (breakdown). if you like synthpop at all, i can't see how you'd be disappointed with this album. definitely for fans of suction records, etc... i wish i lived in chicago. - d ----- Original Message ----- From: String Theory <string@onshore.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 8:11 PM Subject: [idm] [CHICAGO] Soviet/String Theory @ Schuba's - 06/16/02 - 9PM
