As much as it gets slagged, I find the Wire to be a great magazine. Sure they go off the deep end occasionally, but that is more the fault of the individual authors. In general they do a fantastic job of covering the full breadth of experimental and obscure music in all genres. They write about difficult music and bring out the beauty of it's extremity. If you feel like complaining about the Wire, pick up the Rolling Stone or Spin. I'll take pretentious twats talking about Anthony Braxton over corporate dick-sucking any day... Saddest decline is Jockey Slut, which had a brilliant year and then turned into just another club culture clusterfuck. They do an OK job of covering the dancefloor end of things in the review section, but the articles are generally full of stupid shit. It's all very 'knees up', 'knackered', 'bollocks,' and 'lush trainers.' I've even caught them referring to England as 'Blighty.' I'm sure it's just the thing for the fine young British E-tard, but it used to be something special. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
