My major gripe is that many people only know about a few "IDM" artists, most obviously Aphex, Autechre, and Squarepusher. Anything these guys release is scrutinized and examined and gone over like it's the Shroud of Tourin, when in fact the stuff they are releasing isn't worth even purchasing. The attention on this list, in my eyes, should be going to all the new and spectacular releases coming out. We should be debating just how GOOD the new Solvent CD is, not how awful DrukQs turned out. While new releases/artists are mentioned, most listeners still live in the past. They tell new electronic music fans to "check out Autechre's old stuff", instead of telling them to get the latest Novel23 CD, for example. While appreciation for history is good, and necessary, the tremendous focus the "classic" artists get on this list is disproportional to the quality of the music they are currently producing. I guess what I am saying is to get over the old music, and start paying attention to the new artists. -shane --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
