did you miss the point entirely? No, Soul Coughing does not suck. I saw them play live when they still existed. At the Metro in Chicago a few years back. The performance was like no other. Every instrument and every sound they made complimented eachother is such a way that that inner sence of being is appealed to the language of their rythems and lyrics. They even impoved a song when Mark had to restart his computer... The 5% Nation of Mark De Gli Antoni Fans Mark is a very talented musician. His solo release, Horse Tracks, is one of those CDs that is very uplifting, and very deversified. Truely intelegent livingroom music. ...the talented, experimental, sampler colleague composer / magician" -- Mark's astounding virtuosity, mastery of new media and instrumental inventiveness is sure to surprise and delight both diehard fans and newcomers alike." ...but don't take my word for it. -=dVh=- <Phonem and Arovane info = begin repost> One to drool over... Here is the press release for a forthcoming album I think we will all be interested in hearing. . Arovane_Phonem: aer [valid] cd (Vertical Form) Tracks: - valid rand - aer [valid] - valid fard - [fard] ent:r - neyem - suffer - decay - blacksoil Aer [valid] is an exclusive collaboration between renowned electronic artists Arovane and Phonem. Having released critically acclaimed work on Berlin labels such as Din and Morr Music, this joint venture marks the first album release for UK’s Vertical Form label and is part of a series of ongoing projects for the label with both musicians. Bored of the radion with it’s narrow formats and choice? This music refelects the real barrage of sounds and information that we are greeted with every day. Digitally constructed but emotive and with soul - an antidote to the pre-packaged banalities of much of modern popular music, the sounds tap into a world-wide network of musicians and listeners, offering something limitless and free of commercial restraints and is a welcome addition to the rich vein of electronic music produced over three decades from Germany. Written with contrasting techniques, Arovane uses only hardware, having learnt modular-analogue sythesis from scratch, whereas Phonem originally started writing on an Atari games computer. For those already aware of Uwe Zahn and Elliot Perkins’ solo work, this should be an intriguing mix - for those yet to hear, prepare to be impressed. The music, showing classic techno roots mixed with high-tech gitch, ambient, dub and noise, ebbs and flows from distorted, clipped beats through to clouds of melody containing splinters and human voice and found sound (Phonem was a language student and describes his work as "a very vocal project."). An edgy mood shifts into childlike harmonies often within the same track while unexpected contrasts gives way to tracks of languidity and relaxation that are a million miles away from "chill out" or lounge music. There is also a spontaneity of the tracks at odds with some other electronic music; Arovane has said elsewhere how he is looking for "the perfect interface between man and machine", so technique is never present at the expense of emotion. Often demanding, but equally rewarding this is an album to immerse yourself in from beginning to end; as Phonem says "one big research project", but this is in no way mere laboratory music, this is sound science with soul. Catalogue No: VFROM008CD Release date: July 02, 2001 So far, from what i've heard of this release, it lives up to the very flowery hype listed above. My review coming as soon as I get a chance to hear the release in it's entirity. -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States </end repost> ]:^P> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
