I don't really understand this- to say that Neu are good krautrock is like
saying Aphex Twin is good IDM. That is to say, how can you refer to one
of the exemplars of a "genre" as anything but superlative?
(notwithstanding that krautrock is a pretty bogus designation which merely
describes a common approach to interpreting American music). At any rate,
I am firmly of the opinion that the Neu albums are some of the few elusive
recordings in this day and age that are _not_ overrated (unlike say,
Maitreya Kali).
To the original poster, Neu are basically the rock equivalent of minimal
techno. Even though they aren't namechecked by Detroit techno
forefathers, it's easy to associate them with an equivalently antecedent
role as Kraftwerk (whether or not this is historically accurate).
Basically, you need it.

French stuff like what? Heldon? Ame Son? Red Noise? Lard Free? All good
stuff, but I didn't realize there was a competition. I'd still take a
brace of Agitation Free records over all of 'em, though (but that's just
me).
