Yes and no. It is probably not special DJ tape but it is tape. One can
purchase non marking tape at any large hardware store. Althoug as DJ
skills get more and more popular, I imagine some music company like Vestax
will try and market 'special DJ approved tape!'
i saw Kid Koala play last night and there were times where it was obvoius
that he knew the records so well he probably didn't even need tape. There
were times where he would mouth the lyrics and speech as the were playing
on the record. There were also times when he would actually have to look
at the grooves in the record. The turntables are an instrument, and like
any other musical instrument, there are different methods of performance.
I guess putting tape on a record is a lot like a beginner putting dots on
the neck of a violin as to find the notes better.
