A freind of mine is a pretty serious house / garage producer (System 69 as his mum doesn't call him). In an attempt to enlighten him, I lent him a copy of Selected Ambient Works. He was impressed by it, but what suprised me was that he remarked on the incredible drum programming on We Are the Music Makers, something that I hadn't really noticed. I'm guessing that this is because I''m not a serious producer, and have no real idea of what's hard to program. I tend to assume that if its fast, it must be difficult (probably since I'm used to 'real' instuments). So, here's a question for you more production oriented types: if I wanted to seriously impress the guy, what should I play him? I'm really looking for pretty mainstream idm: Aphexy, Autechrey type axis.
