I should probably check hyperreal about this, but I saw a "new" FSOL cd the other day and thought I'd finally found "Cascade". What it was, however, was a full-color, rendered-3D cover for _Accelerator_. I didn't catch the label. My version of this disc is on Jumpin' & Pumpin' records, dated 1991, and has a cover that brings acceleration to mind: blurred colored shapes coming out toward the viewer. It also has ten tracks. Does a) anyone have this same release? b) anyone have this "new" release? c) anyone know if there is a difference? Dave p.s. There's an article in "Details" about the death of the LA rave scene that was actually not a bad read. Someone did their homework. Of note, one song specifically mentioned as an important one in the early days was "Papau New Guinea". .----------------------------------------------dmanning@dreamland.unomaha.edu | "Heaven knows it's got to be this time." dmanning@cwis.unomaha.edu | dmanning@eworld.com .-------------------------------------------- dgmanning@aol.com

Which issue of Details? Is there some coverage of Exist Dance in that article? Mike Kandel, Tyler, Joseph and I made some fucked up polaroids for some Details article on a camping trip but I never saw anything in the next few issues... ::Matthew J. It's in the November issue, with Sylvester Stallone on the cover. There are three releases of the 'Accelerator' CD, to my knowledge: 91: Jumpin' & Pumpin' UK CD TOT 2 (blurred "crayola acceleration" front cover, similar "crayola vortex" back cover, "Central Industrail," all text is ITC Machine) 91: R & S BE [number?] (beige cover art, with a skull and feathers on the front cover, as I recall, back cover blank save for tracklist, text is some serif font - from memory) 94: Jumpin & Pumpin' UK CD TOT 2R (Front cover identical to CD TOT 2, except text is on a black background, back cover is a dorky "we played with Photoshop" deal, fron cover text is ITC Machine, back cover is Eurostile, bonus tracks: "Expander (Remix)" and "Moscow (Remix)") My guess is you saw the R & S version. Isn't there also a single for the song acclerator, with big cheezy three dimensional letters on the front which includes several remixes of accelerator and central industrial and moscow? This may be what the person saw (I've forgotten who sent the original post). A ton of these things just surfaced in all the local rekkid stores, well about a month ago really. [fletcher]

Is it possible that the booklet was flipped about? I did that to mine...colorful rendering of a "globish" thingee. Looks better, IMO.

I am not positive, but I think my copy (reissue) has 12...the last two tracks are remixes of Accelerator and Moscow(? shitty with titles...). OnNow: Swamp Terrorists...too bad I don't get to finish it..on lunch break.

It's R&S 2192 CD, it says "(P) 1992 Jumpin' & Pumpin' Records", the cover art is red w/ wrapped cow skull & feathers, back cover is a close-up/on-angle view of the skull & feathers, along with the track listing in white (unknown font; the "serif font" is probably the credits in black on the inside of the booklet)

Actually, my guess (since he said "new") is that he saw the new Jumpin' & Pumpin' re-issue with the bonus tracks.

There are at least 10-15 raves in L.A. in the next month, sports fans. Anyone who'd write for "Details" is a prat to being with, and if they are babbling about "death of the L.A. rave scene", they're idiots. I've got 8 flyers sitting here next to me that belie that notion ... plus, who'd they think showed up at Millennium, 14,000 movie industry extras?!? - Greg

There's a remix single for 'Expander' with one remix of 'Expander' and one remix of 'Moscow' plus the same 'Central Industrial.' For trainspotters, it came out both with a white center lable in a plain black sleeve and with the cheesy picture sleeve and the usual orange center label. Ahh, but Greg, how many are you attending? We have a rave nearly every weekend here now, but I never bother to go. I think the gist of the "death" idea is that they're not new nor exciting anymore. It doesn't matter how many of them are being advertised, it matters how many of them are quality events that are unique to the rest. Doc Martin is touring with Dee Lite for hell's sake. How underground is that? The whole idea of the rave was the fact that they were illicit, underground, and fantabulously fun. I never see that anymore. In short, the idea is dead. Mixmaster Morris/Pete Namlook in SF was the last time I enjoyed a new idea.
