Picked up the PWEI "AMALGAMATION" CD-7 (Nothing/Interscope CAT No. 95887-2) looking for a great techno remix of "RSVP" that I thought I heard. The Apollo 442 12" remix is good, but probably not the thing I heard. There is a 10 minute cut "Intense", which is the gem of the CD, made it worth the $$. And it may be what I heard (communication with the DJ was via the bartender) Also fine is "C.P.I. #2", big, deep, and dark ambient. Are there other RSVP remixes -- on vinyl or import. How about other PWEI remixes -- other recommendations.... later, steve

How is the regular PWEI sound now? Back to "This is This" or is it still their "Post-Cure For Sanity" guitar-based bleck?

i would characterize their 'new' ep as being much in the same vein as 'the looks or the lifestyle' - - synthesized bass and electronic atmospheres with mostly live drumming and hard-ass guitars. catchy, clever pop tunes (as always) with nice, voice-through-a-distortion-box lyrics. i'm not the expert on their new sound, however, as lazlo apparently has an advance copy of their new album. ______________________________________________________________________________ l jwgrote@indiana.edu l ...at this point things get a little hazy... ____________________l_________________________________________________________

It's post-Cure, but I like it better than what I've heard off Looks Or The Lifestyle (which I never picked up). The sampling is still there but much, much, subtler, and there's acres of fat sloppy shit going on in the background. You have to listen *through* the guitars to hear it, but once you're there, it pops out at you. The singles so far are a little more "surface" than the album as a whole -- "Cape Connection", "Everything's Cool" and "Babylon" are all killer, though. Maybe I should go back and reassess Looks. -- Lazlo (lazlo@rt66.com) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Techno techno bloody *techno*, darling!"
