exactly! he takes a perfectly danceable form, the tango, and renders it undancable and morose. not quite the post-technological anomie which we prefer here in IDM land, but you can't have everything. a couple of interesting records are his "History of the Tango" vols 1 and 2, where he takes some of the famous early tangos (like "La Cumparsita" and "El Choclo") and subjects them to his darker, elaborately rhythmic, idiosyncratic orchestrations. off topic, for sure, but he's a fuck of a lot more interesting than My Bloody Valentine. k --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Totally! I just wanted to reccomend Piazolla's "Tango: Zero Hour" album. I was just listening to it today. Its an amazing piece of work and Piazolla himself considers it to be his best recording ever. So if you're at all interested in Piazolla, Tango: Zero Hour would be an excellent starting point. -Aaron --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Piazolla's music is from another world. Incredible. Check out Yo-Yo Ma's "Soul of the Tango" as well. Of course, this seems very off-topic. Then again, I believe this music - as well as, say, Bach's fugues, has much in common with current ambient/idm. 3 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
