Can you say "India used to be a British Colony"? The Brits have a bit of
pent up history concerning India, and as such, it doesn't surprise me a bit
of their interest in it. Also, IMO, we of "Generation X" are beginning to
doubt this "forced nostalgia" - you know, reminiscing on a period in
history in which we weren't even born yet (to borrow from the book). Kind
of like the US' fascination with the '50s and "groovy sixties". Hell I'm
considered an old fart, and I wasn't even born until '64, so some young
punk in his early 20s can't possibly remember going out to bars and discos
in the mid 70s either. Yet this fascinates the current trendies in the US. I
suspect similar reasons for the UK-based interest in India.
