i know i shouldn't get worked up about a Pitchfork review, but giving The Dolls' (luomo + two others) album a 2.4???? and then saying shit like: "Never has Delay's Finnishness been his only selling point, as coffeeshop assholes round the world will surely feel the record's cold blistery tundrascopic soundscapthropic vibeism thingie thang, and most will enjoy sharing that revelation with the rest of us." and "There's a fucking piano on this album, just saying." http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/d/delay_vladislav/dolls-four-quarters.shtml needless to say, i loved the album, and beyond that.. saying shit like "there's a fucking piano on this album" in a review is down right moronic. -kiya --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The best antidote to pitchforkism is to read David Cross's Top 10 http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/features/artistlists/c/cross_david-05/ -- - Eric Sorenson - N37 17.255 W121 55.738 - http://eric.explosive.net - - Personal colo with a professional touch - http://www.explosive.net - --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i recently sent a friend of mine to see a show in syracuse, where i could not be... of laptop performers doing 'microtonal' stuff... he saw the show, thought it was amazing (i guess they were making things like plates vibrate through low, inaudible soundwaves) but his response was "i liked it, but it wasn't music." it was a bit startling to hear how converstive and old fashioned this statement was (this particular fellow plays drums in a mathy, angular rock band, not exactly straight-forward at all)... i think while WE might truly feel like it's just the same damn thing, the bias against instrumental, electronic music (that isn't party music) might stick around a little longer than expected. and i know i've said this before but... OM AND KIMS DONT STOCK MODESELEKTOR OR KETTLE ... nat http://www.littlefurythings.net

I can't say I've ever agreed with their electronic music reviews. Generally they are crap, completely off-base, biased and skewed in some non-electronic direction and wholly untrue (even for an opinion). They need to have people who actually *like* the genre doing their electronic music reviews. Otherwise it's just pointless and moronic. Go no further. Indie fans don't go to, say, boomkat to read reviews with searing insights on how their favoured music is 'shit' (though I note this dubious delight is now available - e.g. http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=20380 - why?). The mistake is allowing these people the 'space' to submit such witless dross in the name of 'review'. Bah. Give 'em fingers, ears, a keyboard and an internet connection and they think they're Critics ;-/ alan
