use a camcorder to take a picture of the display while it's displaying
what the camcorder sees, then record that
if you get a cheapy text overlay unit (like for titling family videos)
the text or characters will become part of the mosaic

cam for that.
also, forward motion theater sells rave visual dvds that are not bad
at all, i have a couple, they're good background stuff but parts might
be a bit dated by now :
