just wondering if all the fuss about these 2 artists is warranted. i'm dying to hear/find new music with strong melodies and depth and i've been told these 2 possess both. i'm also considering checking them out tonight in sf. has anyone seen them on their current tour? regards, joseph __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? i was planning on it but of course as many of us now know schnauss broke his arm just before the NYC shows. what i've heard of "strangely isolated place" sounds amazing and i can't wait until its rerelease (the date of which keeps getting pushed back) to pick it up. m83 i've yet to hear. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'd say that any good things you've heard about M83 are completely warranted. I wouldn't go so far as calling them IDM (I don't even know if I'd call Schnaussages IDM), but their sound is really awesome. Kinda like if Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Mum, and maybe some of the folks from the Morr stable all got together. Lush. Schnauss's stuff to me is... very well done, but doesn't really have staying power. It gets boring after a while. A lack of depth, I'd say. Beautiful melodies, yes. Substance? Kinda. On Fri, 17 Sep 2004 13:39:20 -0700 (PDT), joseph <joseph_hyun@yahoo.com> wrote:

To me Schnauss is not about beautiful melodies, but about an intoxicating sound canvas. Smooth, soothing. It really hits a certain spot very well, but I agree it's kind of shallow and a bit *too* sweet / full. Couldn't imagine myself listening to this all the time, but I still find myself reaching for his discs relatively often. Worth checking out, no doubt. M83 is pompous, straightforward kinda post-rock with massive analogue synths. Quite beautiful but gets a bit too grandiloquent at times. Something has to hit that yearning for bombast, though, and Dead Cities... hits it really nicely. Both are recommended. ~Visa --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
