so clearly a lot of folk have kept quiet... and clearly a lot of folk have spoken out AGAINST the bush administration... but, out of curiosity, does anyone know of any modern "intelligent" (just meant to exclude the corporate teen-pop/rap'n'roll/alt.rock scene musings, not that they're not valid... well, ok... they're not. clearly this point could be up for debate, but let's just run with the assumption that these people's public opinions are not wholly their own and thus do not count for this survey... apologies for this incredibly long parenthetical splice...) artists in SUPPORT of the bush administration's policies and behaviour? and let's not qualify 'intelligent' by their opinions on the matter, either, shall we? i just have the impression that modern forward-thinking/underground art 'scene' is almost entirely polarized against the current administration... but i'd like a chance to prove that i've been brainwashed by the 'liberal media'. Vincent Gallo springs to mind as someone i've read to have some fairly strong conservative leanings... but i've no idea as to his position on the current administration. just a curiosity... and i don't feel that it's entirely off-topic. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yeah... i was actually talking about "folk" as artists, not folks on the idm list... sorry, i could've been clearer with that opening. i'm not particularly interested in the political leanings of idm-listers, although the unfortunate truth is that this question could possibly lead into a lot of that. i'm just interested in finding out whether anyone knows of any 'relevant' modern artists who've come out in consistent support of the bush admin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I really don't think this is the right mailing list to be asking these sort of questions, as the music that is discussed here is generally quite apolitical. IDM artists aren't really known for having active public personas for the most part, and when they do interviews, politics are rarely discussed. I will say, though, that MOST of the artistic people I know personally - including underground eletronic musicians - tend to be left-leaning in their politics. But I don't think that's anything new, as most artistic subcultures North America in the last 100 years or more have tended to have progressive, left-wing political leanings. i have to disagree with this statement. i think this is a very valid question to be asked on this list. for one, i would find it very interesting to hear if there are any artists out there who support bush...it would definitely make me think more when listening to their music. and second, we shouldn't be so stand-offish when it comes to politics and when someone asks a question like the one this thread sprouted from we should actually think about it and not condemn that person for asking. this list does not always have to be so immature. also, i'd like to say that more artists should express their political views more. music can be a very powerful tool when it's used properly and plus we need a public enemy-type element in this sound...or even an ultra-conservative view, it just can't all be nerds with computers. the only people i can think of at the moment that do anything similar to this is the beta bodega cats...but they're always talking about central and south american politics it seems, but at least they're talking about something. so, now am i wrong for writing this? :dustin
