I'm 56 and I don't find VS scary or agressive, just energetic, GWB, on the other hand IS scary and agressive. I play anything I enjoy myself when my friends are around and don't really have any rules about what music is good to play when. Sure, It'd be really safe to play some jazz or something slow and 'melodic' but why be safe? Everybody plays that stuff already. Just saw Snares in Los Angeles, and there were 20 of us bouncing around, jumping, picking each other up and it was quite good fun. Not scary at all ;) cookie http://www.mashup.org

Venetian Snares is in my opinion brilliant. Not to say always enjoyable, like the 538th time you listen to Kraftwerk "Computer World." But jarring, unsettling 'on some other shit' brilliant. My favorites though in that whole genre though are Stuntrock and Emotional Joystick. Stuntrock is a nice guy too, and Aaron Funk, from what I've heard, isn't. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

thanks for the tip kent. googled it and found this: http://home.golden.net/~miq/mp3/D-TRASH29-STUNTROCK-ThePinnacleOfMediocrity/ the breaks programming is not as nuanced as VS but but the samples of dialog (and music) are hilarious (in a juvenile kinda way, but hilarious none the less) and jeez, nice song titles, eh? like: "really harsh noisy breaks dont cover up for lack of talent, or do they?" although does anyone know what this one refers to?: "Anyone who names their track "so & so can kiss my such & such ass" can kiss my (adjective) (noun) ass ;) on 9/13/03 9:16 AM, Kent williams at kent@avalon.net wrote:

Yeah, Kid 606 on 'Down With the Scene' had a track called 'Luke Vibert Can Kiss My Indie-Punk Whiteboy Ass' along with other fun titles like 'It'll Take Millions In Plastic Surgery To Make Me Black' and 'In Love With All You Are And Forever Maybe As If My Soul Depended On It To Survive'. -thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yup...the guy rocked it in LA Wednesday night...it was great to see people dancing and moshing around and yes, at times it was sort of scary but the crowd welcomed it (as did i). Definitely not your pretty arovane (is aphex twin ha ha), but everything has it's place. It was surprisingly funky actually and he played some new stuff he recently worked on with otto v. schirach that was off the hook as you can imagine...can't wait for that release. -anon "he who hides his madman dies voiceless" -Henri Michaux on 9/13/03 9:16 AM, Kent williams at kent@avalon.net wrote:

A lot depends on the system you are listening on. If I listen downstairs on my proper hi fi it sounds fantastic, wide and beautiful. Every piece of distortion and loud shouty sound is full of fascinating nuances that inspire and exhilarate me. If I listen on these crappy speakers in this nasty echoey room it is scary and offensive. Do you need a better hi fi?
