just for a little clarification, theorem produced (still produces?) techno / minimal tech. and if you wanna hear deep house, go to dylandrazen.com or sunday-sessions.com and listen to the house mixes. if you like theorem, you might want to try other labels that release "deep" minimal techno like chain reaction / basic channel, force, background, minus, and so on. peace! sean _______________________________________________________________________ Sent via Pace University's WebMail system at stmail.pace.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

thanks. as a genre, i'm highly uninterested in house (the steady 909 and 303, the latin pianos, the syncopated chord stabs, the wailing divas) or even techno variants on house. however, i have to admit that there were a few things similar to theorem i must have heard when dragged to some clubs awhile back. when i saw underworld at field day this past june, some of their songs vaguely resembled what i mean. i can do without the vocals though. there's also a few old acid-like tracks that i kind of liked. synth hooks really similar to 808 state's "cubik", but i could never find out what they were. they were probably white-labels but they must have eventually made it onto CD somewhere. oh, and i think the first lords of acid CD is hilarious. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There is lots of good stuff like this (minamal/deep/dubby/un-cheesy/no-vocal/techno/house) on the mp3 label Thinner - http://thinnerism.com/ although i wouldn't bother with their latest release by krill.minima on 9/13/03 12:28 PM, Sean at sm66220n@stmail.pace.edu wrote:

i'm always open to new (or new to me) things that are good. it's just that every place i've ever been to that plays house pretty much stays within the parameters i mentioned, and while that may have been novel to me in 1990, it's not now. if you know where there's a load of sound clips of these other, better variants i can check out, please post. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

House is as varied as Chris Gray, The Perlon label, Hakan Lidbo - heck, the whole Basic Channel sound has been nicknamed "heroin house". Depends on where your ears are, but along those lines it can be heard in a lot of the German stuffs which can be defined along minimal house/techno lines. To dis house generally can be seen to dismiss the likes of Kompakt, etc. Many people would argue that handbag house is not at all an accurate representation of house any more than Moby is an accurate representation of techno. jeff

funny, i know moby is considered the mainstream end of techno, but i hear just as much house (of the style i mentioned) in his music - more organic samples, etc. as far as genre sterotypes, you have to understand that anyone outside any given genre hears those first. i could just as easily describe goth as minor-key, bassline-driven, midtempo guitar-rock with deep male or shrieky female vocals singing about various aspects of darkness. unfortunately, i've been there and done that, and a lot of people see, to want that rigid definition to stick. and so, any number of only vaguely related dark music genres have sprung up...yet to the casual observer, marilyn manson, the cure, death in june, evanescence, and the soundtrack of bram stoker's dracula are all goth. you've heard the saying that there are only two types of music - good and bad. even that simple distinction is obviously subjective, but it starts getting to the fact that enjoying music can often cut across the distinctions between different styles. i wasn't trying to trash house as a genre, only pointing out that my experience of it has been what i described. if i can get into theorem, deadbeat, lords of acid, and some anonymous white-labels here and there, there may be more out there i could also enjoy. i just haven't heard it yet. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, if Soulseek is against your moral, I'm sure there are some net radios that play this stuff. I haven't paid that much attention to them, since I don't really have the required bandwith, but I'm sure someone else can give you decent suggestions. Then there are of course these sites like amazon.com and groovetech.net that offer short, low quality samples of their records, but these samples don't really do justice to the original tracks... .: visa tapani --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i've been looking for netradio streams that aren't blocked at my job. there are some things that play through realplayer, like the "radio shows" at the neo ouija site (several are quite good).

of course, i know that. however, i'm generally of the opinion that if a crappy realaudio sample or half-assed mp3 can pique my interest, the album is probably worth getting. there's only been a couple of cases where the inferior sound quality actually made it sound better and i was disappointed with the real thing. funny that. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The Streets? aka Mike Skinner, a rapper/producer from London that uses garage-like beats. It's pretty good, but maybe not for everyone. http://www.the-streets.co.uk/ Squarepusher also has a garage piss take called My Red Hot car...you've probably heard that though. -- Tim Moore --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The best thing I have heard along that lines is the Radioactive Man - Ave That (Tim Wright remix). That's a good tune! You might want to give Horsepower Productions and Maddslinky a listen. I'm not into this stuff, but there tunes sound better than most of the 2 Step stuff I have heard. Hope this helps. - W --- a75 <a@adrien75.com> wrote:

I was just about to mention Tim Wright - he's a mate of mine, and people seem to think he does garage (I'm not sure of these genres, so maybe he does!). Anyway, check out the 12"s on NovaMute (esp. "The Lunge"/"Going down") - fantastic... On a (slightly) more 'house' tip, you could do worse than check out his 'Tube Jerk' abums on Sativae records - 'Fold' is now out of print, but 'Shift' is a grand chunk'o'music - reminiscent of his 'Germ' period, it manages to survive listening and dancing... john.. PS: any UK idm-ers want to get their hands on the latest copy of the "robots and electronic brains" fanzine, we're running a competition of sorts for five copies - each comes with a CD featuring four 'minimism' artists... ============ label: http://www.minimism.com/ music: http://www.namke.com/ ============ ============ Quoting William Samuels <w_technoir@yahoo.com>:

I think someone might have already mentioned this, but http://www.dylandrazen.com/ has a bunch of good quality mixtapes/DJ sets in various styles of house and techno from super minimal to noisy and hard. There are mp3 downloads of many of them, so a firewall is no problem. -- Tim Moore --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
